Geologist

Responsibilities:

Conduct geological surveys, field investigations, and site assessments. Collect and analyze rock, soil, sediment, and mineral samples. Study geological formations, structures, composition, and physical characteristics. Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, models, and technical documentation. Interpret geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to support project objectives. Conduct geological logging of boreholes, cores, rock samples, and excavation sites. Assist with mineral, groundwater, petroleum, or construction-related geological investigations as required. Monitor drilling, excavation, sampling, and other field activities to ensure proper geological procedures are followed. Use geological software, mapping tools, GPS, GIS, and other relevant technical equipment. Assess geological risks and provide recommendations for construction, excavation, drilling, or resource development activities. Prepare detailed geological reports, field notes, maps, presentations, and technical findings. Liaise with engineers, surveyors, environmental specialists, contractors, and other technical professionals. Ensure geological data and samples are properly documented, labelled, stored, and maintained. Conduct research and stay updated on relevant geological methods, technologies, and industry standards. Ensure field activities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Travel to project sites and work in field environments when required. Perform other geological and technical duties assigned by management.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or HND in Geology, Applied Geology, Engineering Geology, or a related field. Proven years of relevant experience in geological fieldwork, exploration, site investigation, mining, construction, environmental consulting, or oil and gas. Strong knowledge of geology, mineralogy, petrology, structural geology, and geological field techniques. Experience with geological mapping, sampling, logging, and interpretation. Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, geological modelling software, or other relevant technical tools is an advantage. Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret geological maps, reports, borehole logs, and technical data. Good technical report-writing and documentation skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Willingness to travel and work in field locations under varying conditions. Good knowledge of health, safety, and environmental procedures. Professional membership of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) or relevant professional body is an advantage. Relevant certifications or experience in the oil and gas, mining, construction, or environmental sector are an added advantage.
