ABOUT THE POSITION Allround Marine Technician - Mechanics, Electricity & HVAC
For a professional marine service organization in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), we are looking for three experienced Allround Marine Technicians.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background in the following three disciplines:
⚙️ Mechanics ⚡ Electricity ❄️ HVAC & Refrigeration
Candidates with professional experience in at least two of these three disciplines are also eligible.
Please note: technicians who work exclusively within one discipline are not eligible for this position.
ABOUT THE POSITION Allround Marine Technician - Mechanics, Electricity & HVAC BVI
You will be part of a professional marine technical team and work on a varied range of sailing yachts and motor yachts in the British Virgin Islands.
You will be involved in detecting and diagnosing technical faults, performing repairs and maintenance, and contributing to the reliable operation of various technical systems on board.
We are looking for someone who is practical, possesses the necessary experience, and can switch quickly between different technical disciplines, depending on what the job requires.
⚙️ Mechanics
Depending on your experience, this may include:
- Marine diesel engines and propulsion systems
- Cooling systems and heat exchangers
- Fuel systems
- Gearboxes, shafts, and propellers
- Exhaust systems
- Generators
- Bow thrusters and other mechanical auxiliary systems
- Fault diagnosis, maintenance, and repairs
⚡ Electricity
Including:
- 12V and 24V DC systems
- AC shore power systems
- Battery banks and charging systems
- Inverters and chargers
- Alternators and engine charging circuits
- Distribution panels and onboard cabling
- Bilge pumps and deck equipment
- Electrical fault diagnosis
- Safe electrical installation techniques on board
❄️ HVAC & Refrigeration
Including:
- Air conditioning systems for yachts
- Refrigeration units
- Handling and maintaining refrigerants
- Seawater cooling systems
- Compressors, evaporators, and condensers
- Commissioning and maintenance of systems
- Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting
Experience with watermakers is a plus.
WHO ARE YOU?
Allround Marine Technician - Mechanics, Electricity & HVAC
- Minimum 5 years of professional hands-on experience within marine technology, with strong skills in diagnosis and repairs.
- Strong professional knowledge of at least two of the following disciplines: mechanics, electricity, and HVAC & refrigeration. Experience in all three is highly regarded.
- Relevant professional certificates and experience working on sailing yachts and/or motor yachts, preferably within a marina, shipyard, charter fleet, or similar professional environment.
- You are professional, practical, and a true team player. You possess good communication skills in English, have a valid driver's license, and can work independently when necessary.
Desired experience
Extra assets are:
- ABYC certificates or other internationally recognized certifications
- Experience with OEMs and manufacturers
- Experience with catamarans
- 8+ years of experience
- Offshore or bluewater experience
- Experience with maintenance and service of watermakers
CERTIFICATES & QUALIFICATIONS
Allround Marine Technician
- Current professional certification is required.
ABYC certification serves as a reference, but equivalent, internationally recognized qualifications are also eligible.
⚙️ Mechanics
- Required: ABYC Marine Engines & Fuel Systems – or an equivalent international certification
- Preferred: certification from an OEM/manufacturer, such as Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Cummins, Beta, or Perkins
- Plus point: ABYC Master Technician certification (3+ certifications)
⚡ Electricity
- Required: ABYC Marine Electrical Certification – or an equivalent international certification
- Preferred: ABYC Advanced Marine Electrical Certification
- Plus point: ABYC Master Technician certification
❄️ HVAC & Refrigeration
- Required: recognized certification for working with refrigerants / EPA 608 – or an equivalent international certification
- Required: ABYC A/C & Refrigeration Certification (or equivalent) – or demonstrable equivalent experience
- Preferred: ABYC Marine Systems Certification
International qualifications welcome
We welcome candidates with internationally recognized certifications from organizations such as RYA, MCA, NMEA, City & Guilds, NVQ, CITB, IMI and equivalent professional bodies.
