Job title: Lead electrical engineer – offshore island project

KBR Abu Dhabi PMC team is currently looking to fill a position of Lead Electrical Engineer for an Offshore Island Project to be based in UAE (Abu Dhabi) as soon as the administrative processes are completed, will then relocate to Spain office and then return to Abu Dhabi.

Job purpose

The Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading all electrical engineering activities for ADNOC offshore projects, ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems. The role covers offshore platforms, process facilities, substations, utility systems, and associated infrastructure throughout FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, commissioning, and start-up phases while ensuring compliance with ADNOC standards, international codes, and project requirements.

Key responsibilities

Electrical Engineering Leadership

Lead all electrical engineering activities for offshore oil and gas facilities.

Manage and supervise a team of electrical engineers, designers, and draftsmen.

Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within project schedule, budget, and quality requirements.

Coordinate with ADNOC, EPC contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Provide technical leadership and resolution of complex electrical engineering issues.

Power System Design

Develop and review electrical design philosophies and engineering calculations.

Lead the design and specification of:

Power generation systems

HV, MV, and LV distribution systems

Offshore substations

Switchgear systems

Transformers

UPS systems

Battery systems

Motor control centers (MCCs)

Variable frequency drives (VFDs)

Power management systems (PMS)

Review and approve:

Single line diagrams (SLDs)

Load lists

Electrical equipment specifications

Cable schedules

Protection coordination studies

Earthing and lightning protection designs

Lighting layouts

Hazardous area equipment specifications

Electrical Studies & Analysis

Review and approve electrical system studies, including:

Load flow analysis

Short circuit analysis

Motor starting studies

Relay coordination studies

Arc flash analysis

Harmonic analysis

Transient stability studies

ETAP modeling and simulations

Ensure electrical network reliability and system operability for offshore facilities.

Offshore & Hazardous Area Compliance

Ensure electrical installations comply with offshore and hazardous area requirements.

Review hazardous area classification drawings and equipment selection.

Ensure compliance with explosion-proof and intrinsically safe system requirements.

Coordinate with process safety and instrumentation disciplines regarding hazardous area installations.

Procurement & Vendor Management

Prepare and review material requisitions (MRs) and technical bid evaluations (TBEs).

Review vendor offers and ensure technical compliance with project specifications.

Participate in vendor meetings and technical clarification discussions.

Review and approve vendor drawings, calculations, and documentation.

Construction & Commissioning Support

Provide technical support during construction, installation, and offshore hook-up activities.

Resolve site technical queries and non-conformance issues.

Review and approve commissioning procedures and test plans.

Witness:

Factory acceptance tests (FAT)

Site acceptance tests (SAT)

Integrated system tests

Energization activities

Support start-up and project handover activities.

Interface Management

Coordinate with:

Instrumentation & control engineering

Mechanical engineering

Process engineering

Telecom engineering

Structural engineering

Construction teams

Ensure proper integration of electrical systems with control systems, utility systems, and process facilities.

Quality, HSE & Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with:

ADNOC standards

IEC standards

IEEE standards

NFPA codes

API standards

ISO standards

Local UAE regulations

Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL reviews, design reviews, and project audits.

Promote safe engineering practices and compliance with ADNOC HSE requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

Master's degree in electrical power systems or related discipline preferred.

Professional Engineering (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent certification is advantageous.

Experience

Minimum 18–20 years of electrical engineering experience in oil & gas projects.

Minimum 8–10 years in a lead electrical engineering position.

Extensive experience in offshore oil and gas facilities.

Proven experience on ADNOC offshore projects and major EPC projects in the Middle East.

Experience in FEED, detailed engineering, EPC, brownfield, and greenfield projects.

Strong knowledge of offshore power generation and distribution systems.
