Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a hands-on ACMV Engineer with experience in Design & Build, construction or M&E engineering companies .
The role covers the full ACMV project cycle , from site survey and design development to site execution, testing & commissioning and handover.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working both in the office and on site . He/She will be responsible for ensuring that the ACMV design is accurate, practical, buildable and properly executed on site , and will be expected to attend to design and technical issues throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities
Site Survey & Design
- Conduct detailed site surveys and take accurate site measurements before commencing design works.
- Verify existing site conditions, dimensions, levels, services and other site constraints that may affect the ACMV design.
- Develop ACMV designs that are practical, coordinated and executable on site .
- Prepare shop drawings using AutoCAD and actively follow up on client or consultants' comments, revisions and design changes.
- Prepare design reports, engineering calculations and cost estimates.
- Coordinate ACMV designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing and other M&E services to minimise clashes and site issues.
Site Execution & Coordination
- Regularly attend site to monitor and coordinate ACMV works and ensure that installation is carried out in accordance with the approved design and drawings.
- Work closely with Project Managers, site teams, subcontractors, consultants and other trades to resolve ACMV-related issues.
- Attend project, safety and site coordination meetings.
- Check actual site conditions and measurements against the design and make necessary adjustments where required.
- Ensure that the design can be practically executed within the available site space and existing conditions.
- Identify potential constructability issues early and propose practical engineering solutions.
- Provide technical support and clarification to the site team during installation.
- Follow up on project progress and provide timely reporting to the Project Manager.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Attend to design discrepancies, site constraints and technical problems relating to ACMV works.
- Investigate and rectify design issues that arise during installation.
- Propose design modifications or alternative solutions where the original design cannot be executed as intended.
- Resolve ACMV coordination issues and minimise delays, rework and abortive works.
- Carry out basic troubleshooting of ACMV systems and assist with rectification works where required.
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- Coordinate and carry out testing & commissioning of ACMV systems.
- Follow up on defects, rectification works and outstanding ACMV issues during project completion and the Defects Liability Period (DLP) .
- Prepare O&M manuals, as-built drawings and other handover documentation.
- Conduct system training for clients/end users where required.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Air-Conditioning & Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV) Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant local Singapore experience in ACMV design and project execution.
- Strong hands-on experience in ACMV systems , including ducting, piping and piping/structural supports.
- Experience in Design & Build, construction or M&E engineering companies is preferred.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and able to independently prepare and amend ACMV shop drawings.
- Able to conduct site surveys and obtain/verify accurate measurements independently.
- Good understanding of ACMV installation, coordination, testing & commissioning and site requirements.
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and site conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate design requirements into practical site solutions .
- Willing and able to spend significant time on site when required.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of ACMV-related design and site matters.
- Good communication and coordination skills with consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams.
- Target-oriented and able to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
