Field Service Technician

Position Summary
The Field Service Technician is responsible for providing first-line technical support, on-site fault attendance, minor rectification, defect logging and standby response for special vehicles fleets. The role supports daily operational readiness by attending to vehicle issues, coordinating with the servicing partner or workshop for escalated repairs, and ensuring each reported defect is followed up until closure.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend to mobile on-site service calls for vehicle defects, breakdown support and operational issues.
- Carry out first-line trouble shooting and minor rectification for vehicular and operational systems.
- Perform basic diagnostic checks, record fault codes and provide initial findings to the Team Lead / Project Manager.
- Operate and manage the assigned service van, including basic tools, consumables, PPE and commonly required spare parts.
- Respond to standby calls when rostered, including troubleshooting, on-site attendance and coordination of towing or workshop support where required.
- Coordinate with servicing partner, workshop, vendor or towing provider for defects that cannot be resolved on-site.
- Log each reported case according to project required details and closure update.
- Follow up on pending defects, repeated defects, parts delays and workshop repair status until closure.
- Ensure vehicle is not released as serviceable if the defect may affect road safety or operational reliability.
- Maintain professional communication with involved internal and external stakeholders.
Standby / Call Response Arrangement
- 5.5 workdays with shift-based rostering subject to company deployment requirements.
- Rostered staff to remain contactable while on shift.
- Rostered staff will be provided with a service van.
Requirements
- N Level / O Level / NITEC / Higher NITEC in Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical or relevant technical discipline preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on automotive, commercial vehicle, fleet maintenance or mobile service experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical systems.
- Valid Class 3 driving licence is required; Class 4 licence will be advantageous.
- Able to converse and write in English.
- Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work.
- Positive team player with good discipline, ownership and ability to work independently.
- Fresh grads are welcome. Training will be provided.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting ambulance, emergency vehicles, commercial fleet, automotive workshop or mobile breakdown service.
- Experience using OBD / diagnostic scanner, battery tester, multimeter and basic hand tools.
- Familiarity with service reporting, defect tracking and coordination with workshop / vendor support.
Performance Expectations
- Respond to assigned cases promptly and provide clear status updates.
- Record accurate defect information and action taken for every attendance.
- Keep service van tools and consumables ready for deployment.
- Maintain safe work practices and avoid clearing vehicles with unresolved safety-related defects.
- Support the team in maintaining ambulance fleet readiness and reducing unnecessary downtime.
