Your tasks

  • Define technical strategy and architecture: Own the technical direction of verification services and establish robust service contracts across Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) workflows.
  • Design resilient verification integrations: Develop reliable abstractions around third-party verification providers, ensuring that provider outages or degraded performance do not compromise overall system availability or customer onboarding.
  • Strengthen security and compliance: Design fail-closed behavior, comprehensive audit trails, and defensible verification processes that meet regulatory expectations and protect sensitive customer information.
  • Eliminate recurring technical failures: Identify systemic weaknesses, investigate root causes, and implement architectural improvements that prevent recurring incidents rather than addressing symptoms individually.
  • Lead architecture and engineering standards: Document and drive architecture decision records (ADRs), establish reusable engineering patterns, and integrate security and compliance considerations into the design process.
  • Deliver hands-on technical solutions: Contribute directly across the software stack, particularly in Rust, while collaborating on TypeScript and React implementations where verification processes intersect with customer-facing experiences.
  • Improve verification performance and automation: Drive measurable improvements in onboarding speed, automated decision-making, verification accuracy, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop engineers: Raise engineering standards through code contributions, design reviews, technical guidance, and constructive feedback, helping senior engineers become more effective and independent.
  • Collaborate across teams: Work with engineering, product, security, compliance, and other stakeholders to align technical decisions with business priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain production reliability: Apply continuous deployment practices, feature flags, monitoring, and rollback strategies to deliver changes safely and incrementally in a high-stakes environment.
  • Establish measurable outcomes: Connect engineering initiatives to clear performance indicators, ensuring that improvements deliver tangible benefits for customers, operational teams, and the wider business.

Requirements

  • Professional experience: Approximately 8 years of experience building and operating production software systems, including a demonstrated track record of owning technical direction within a complex engineering domain.
  • Advanced Rust expertise: Deep proficiency in Rust, including building reliable backend services, with the flexibility to work across TypeScript and React when needed.
  • Architecture and technical leadership: Proven experience designing architectures and engineering patterns that other developers can build upon, with examples of preventing entire categories of system failures and improving long-term maintainability.
  • Distributed systems expertise: Strong understanding of distributed systems, service contracts, system reliability, and secure software design in production environments.
  • Third-party API integration: Experience integrating external services with robust timeout handling, retries, idempotency, circuit breakers, and tested fallback mechanisms.
  • High-stakes systems experience: A background in environments where technical errors have significant consequences, such as financial services, payments, security, compliance, or other regulated industries.
  • Engineering mentorship: Demonstrated ability to improve team performance through technical guidance, architectural decision-making, reusable tooling, mentoring, and effective design reviews.
  • Operational excellence: Experience building reliable, observable production systems and addressing the root causes of incidents while maintaining high standards for security and availability.
  • Infrastructure and development tooling: Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly learn, gRPC, Temporal, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, MySQL/MariaDB, Redis, and GitLab CI/CD.
  • Ownership and accountability: Ability to operate autonomously, navigate ambiguity, make sound technical trade-offs, and take responsibility for outcomes beyond individual feature delivery.
  • Cross-functional communication: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex technical decisions and align engineers and non-technical stakeholders around shared objectives.
