Staff Engineer, Frontend
Your tasks
You will define and drive frontend engineering strategy across several interconnected product areas, combining hands-on development with architectural leadership, technical mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Set and execute frontend technical strategy across multiple Account Experience teams, covering architecture, component systems, and implementation decisions.
- Own the architecture of a complex, data-intensive merchant platform, establishing scalable patterns for state management, application structure, and performance.
- Shape the evolution of an AI-powered merchant companion, developing frontend architecture that integrates conversational interactions naturally into the platform.
- Establish shared component libraries and design-system foundations to ensure a consistent experience across account setup, monitoring, workflows, and auditing.
- Influence engineers across teams through code contributions, architecture and design reviews, technical guidance, and mentorship, raising frontend engineering standards without relying on direct authority.
- Treat accessibility, performance budgets, and frontend observability as essential engineering priorities throughout the development lifecycle.
- Partner with Product and Design to translate user needs into effective technical solutions and contribute frontend expertise to key product decisions.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to align frontend architecture with underlying APIs, services, and platform capabilities.
- Take end-to-end ownership of frontend solutions, from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance.
- Promote strong engineering practices, independent problem-solving, and effective asynchronous collaboration within a distributed team.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced frontend technical leader who can establish direction across multiple teams while remaining deeply involved in engineering execution. You should bring strong architectural judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence technical decisions through expertise and collaboration.
- Demonstrated experience operating at Staff Engineer or Principal Engineer level, setting frontend technical direction across multiple teams.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript and React, with a proven track record of architecting and building complex, long-lived web applications.
- Strong knowledge of frontend architecture, including large-scale state management, performance optimization, accessibility, and component-system design.
- Excellent technical judgment and the ability to earn the trust of engineers and stakeholders through sound decisions and effective leadership.
- Sufficient full-stack understanding to reason about APIs, backend services, and system dependencies, and to collaborate effectively with backend engineers.
- Experience influencing engineering direction across teams through technical mentorship, code reviews, architectural discussions, and collaborative problem-solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to Product, Design, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort working autonomously across several teams, identifying opportunities, defining priorities, and shaping technical initiatives without needing a predefined scope.
- Commitment to frontend quality as a core engineering discipline, including accessibility, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Ability to thrive in a remote-first environment through disciplined work habits, clear communication, and effective asynchronous collaboration.
- Experience in payments, fintech, or platform engineering is an advantage, but strong engineering expertise is the primary consideration.
