Software Development Engineer II - Backend
Accountabilities: Design, build, and ship scalable multi-tenant services supporting checkout, subscriptions, payment orchestration, invoicing, and tax integrations.
Integrate payment service providers and local payment methods, including UPI, digital wallets, BNPL, cards, and 3DS, using resilient webhooks and idempotent APIs.
Implement an append-only double-entry ledger and apply event sourcing or CQRS patterns where they improve scalability, traceability, and correctness.
Define robust event contracts, data policies, consistency guarantees, and schemas that support reliable transaction processing at scale.
Develop production-grade backend services with comprehensive test coverage and OpenTelemetry instrumentation.
Operate services on GKE using CI/CD, autoscaling, service-level indicators and objectives, and on-call ownership.
Design database schemas for scale while maintaining backward compatibility and reliable data evolution.
Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to translate requirements into effective technical solutions and continuously refine delivered products.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, and continuous learning.
Requirements:
You have at least 2 years of professional software development experience.
You have experience working with PostgreSQL, Valkey, and event-driven systems such as Kafka or Pub/Sub.
You have strong distributed systems fundamentals, including idempotency, retries, ordering, concurrency, and consistency.
You understand multi-tenant architecture, including tenant isolation, per-tenant data and quota boundaries, and noisy-neighbor containment.
You have hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform, along with familiarity with secrets management, KMS, and PCI fundamentals.
You have a strong testing discipline across unit, integration, contract, and performance testing.
You are experienced in designing database schemas for scale and backward compatibility.
You have strong debugging and problem-solving abilities and can investigate complex issues effectively.
Experience with Go, ConnectRPC, and Buf is valuable for working within the backend technology environment.
Familiarity with GCP services such as GKE and Pub/Sub, as well as AlloyDB, ClickHouse, Valkey, and OpenTelemetry, is advantageous.
You are comfortable collaborating with product and design stakeholders and supporting the development of less experienced engineers.
You demonstrate ownership, attention to detail, and a strong focus on building reliable, maintainable systems.
Benefits:
Remote-first working environment with opportunities to collaborate across a global organization.
Opportunity to work on primarily greenfield commerce and payments initiatives with limited technical debt.
Exposure to large-scale distributed systems designed to support millions of businesses and significant transaction volumes.
Hands-on experience with modern technologies including Go, PostgreSQL, GCP, Kubernetes, Pub/Sub, Valkey, ClickHouse, and OpenTelemetry.
Opportunities to work on complex domains including payments, subscriptions, reconciliation, tax, invoicing, and commerce infrastructure.
Opportunities for professional growth through collaboration with product and design teams and mentorship of junior engineers.
A culture centered on initiative, clarity, ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
