Accountabilities: As the primary in-house legal expert, you will partner closely with executive leadership and teams across product, engineering, security, sales, sponsorships, finance, and people operations. You will focus on reducing legal friction, managing risk, and creating repeatable processes that support business growth.

Lead product legal strategy and provide guidance on privacy, data protection, AI, compliance, intellectual property, commercial contracts, and customer security requirements.

Own GDPR and other relevant data compliance assessments, including interpreting US and European privacy laws and advising on data controller and processor responsibilities.

Develop scalable privacy support systems, including intake processes, playbooks, templates, self-service resources, and clear escalation procedures.

Build an efficient process for responding to customer security questionnaires and collaborate with security and commercial teams to address customer requirements.

Advise on product development and feature launches throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring legal considerations are integrated into decisions from the outset.

Support commercial negotiations and become the primary legal resource for contracts and related business matters.

Assess and prioritize legal risks, identify upcoming legal needs, and provide practical, commercially aligned recommendations to leadership.

Reduce unnecessary reliance on external counsel by managing appropriate legal work internally and engaging specialists when needed.

Improve legal workflows and help establish mature, sustainable practices across privacy, compliance, product counsel, contracts, and security support.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate combines strong legal expertise with commercial judgment, a proactive approach, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving technology environment. You should be comfortable translating complex requirements into actionable recommendations while balancing risk management with business objectives.

Hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited US law school.

Be an active member in good standing of a State Bar Association.

Have experience as in-house counsel at a technology company or advising technology businesses through a leading law firm with a strong startup practice.

Demonstrate deep expertise in product legal matters, data privacy, and compliance.

Have strong knowledge of US and European data privacy frameworks, including GDPR and CCPA, and understand the implications of controller and processor roles.

Be able to translate legal and regulatory requirements into scalable processes, templates, playbooks, and self-service guidance.

Have experience supporting customer security questionnaires and collaborating with security, sales, product, and engineering stakeholders.

Understand SOC 2 Type II and the related legal, privacy, and customer requirements.

Possess knowledge of intellectual property law, particularly as it relates to brands, content, and software.

Bring strong commercial contract experience and the ability to negotiate and advise on business agreements.

Communicate clearly, simplify complex issues, and build trusted relationships across functions.

Demonstrate strategic thinking, business curiosity, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to resolving disagreements.

Take ownership, work effectively at speed, and identify opportunities to solve problems without waiting for direction.

Be comfortable serving as the sole in-house legal expert, with external counsel available for specialized matters.

Be motivated by helping creators succeed and approach legal challenges as opportunities to enable responsible innovation rather than simply prevent risk.
