Mechanical Engineer, Operations Engineering

Accountabilities Lead the design and development of mechanical systems supporting data center operations, with a focus on HVAC, cooling, chilled-water systems, and thermal management.

Establish and maintain engineering standards for mechanical infrastructure and contribute to the implementation and replacement of critical systems.

Optimize mechanical infrastructure for reliability, operational efficiency, sustainability, and cost effectiveness.

Partner with cross-functional teams on capacity planning and scalable infrastructure solutions to support growing data processing requirements.

Provide technical leadership for day-to-day operations, diagnosing complex mechanical issues and developing proactive, practical solutions.

Develop and support initiatives that reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint of data center facilities.

Manage large-scale multidisciplinary projects from initial design through installation and commissioning, maintaining timelines, budgets, quality standards, and stakeholder alignment.

Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and vendors to source equipment and materials that meet technical specifications, industry standards, and budget requirements.

Lead and mentor engineering professionals while collaborating closely with electrical, civil, IT, facilities, and other teams.

Review and develop maintenance practices for mechanical systems and infrastructure to support long-term reliability and operational continuity.

Ensure mechanical systems comply with applicable regulations, safety requirements, engineering standards, and industry best practices.

Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably within data centers, facilities management, high-performance computing, or other critical infrastructure environments.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Deep technical expertise in HVAC, cooling systems, chilled-water systems, thermal management, and mechanical infrastructure supporting high-performance computing environments.

Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, including budgets, schedules, vendors, and stakeholder communication.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues and develop effective solutions under operational constraints.

Proven leadership experience, including the ability to guide cross-functional teams and mentor less-experienced engineers.

Knowledge of energy-efficient technologies, sustainability practices, and approaches for improving the environmental performance of large-scale data center facilities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain highly technical information clearly to diverse audiences.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards for safety, reliability, and quality.

Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.
