Material Handling Equipment Technician II
Accountabilities Material handling equipment maintenance: Assist senior technicians with preventive and corrective maintenance on powered material handling equipment, including inspections, oil-level checks, belts, chains, motors, controls, safety systems, and manufacturer-recommended maintenance.
Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting: Apply working knowledge of AC/DC low-voltage electrical systems, electrical controls, motors, PLC systems, hydraulic components, transmissions, drive units, braking systems, steering, suspension, telescopic masts, and related equipment.
Repairs and projects: Complete minor electrical repairs, welding projects, and other maintenance assignments involving buildings and grounds, including light carpentry, painting, plumbing, lighting, furniture or fixture relocation, and minor electrical-device repairs.
Industrial battery support: Assist with battery charger repairs, MHE battery changes, plug and charger-tip repairs, battery watering and washing, equalizing charges, battery-rack cleaning, and appropriate response to acid spills.
Safety and compliance: Follow all workplace safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, comply with OSHA and applicable regulations, and actively promote safe working practices throughout the department.
Maintenance documentation: Record labor, materials, preventive maintenance activities, and work orders accurately in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Emergency response: Respond to maintenance emergencies and other situations requiring prompt action to protect employees, equipment, and facilities.
Housekeeping and equipment care: Maintain clean and organized maintenance and work areas and ensure tools and equipment remain safe, clean, and operational.
Collaboration: Build effective working relationships with technicians, operations teams, and other stakeholders while supporting departmental projects and participating in designated on-call coverage.
Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical school training or equivalent education, preferably a two-year program, is desirable.
Experience: Approximately four years of material handling equipment maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Technical knowledge: Working knowledge of MHE maintenance, electrical AC/DC systems, hydraulic systems, mechanical components, electrical controls, PLC systems, drive motors, and related equipment.
Technical certifications: Ability to obtain the required Powered Industrial Equipment Certification within three months and complete an approved MHE manufacturer maintenance technician certificate, such as training from Crown, Raymond, Hyster, or a comparable manufacturer.
Driver requirements: Valid state driver's license and proof of liability coverage meeting applicable requirements.
Safety knowledge: Ability to understand and follow technical procedures, governmental regulations, workplace safety requirements, and applicable OSHA standards.
Technical literacy: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and regulatory information, as well as perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Problem-solving: Strong practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify equipment issues and complete repairs safely and efficiently.
Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, cooperate with colleagues, and build productive working relationships.
Physical capability: Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, reach, handle tools and equipment, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; ability to occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
Work flexibility: Willingness to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and designated on-call shifts, as required by operational needs.
Working conditions: Comfortable working around moving mechanical equipment, noise, fumes or airborne particles, variable temperatures and humidity, elevated areas, and confined spaces.
