Automation Engineer to DP Patterning
Do you want to work closely with both technology and production while simultaneously helping to develop a unique technology for the future of electronics manufacturing? Do you have experience in PLC programming and an interest in automation, troubleshooting, and machinery? Then this could be a truly exciting opportunity.
DP Patterning is now seeking an automation engineer who wants to become part of their engineering team and work with the automation behind the company's production equipment.
DP Patterning is a Swedish technology company that has developed and patented Dry Phase Patterning (DPP) – a technology for manufacturing flexible electronics. The technology replaces traditional chemical etching with a mechanical reel-to-reel process, which can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 99 percent while reducing lead times and material waste. The company's technology is used in areas such as the automotive industry, LED lighting, RFID/NFC, defense, consumer electronics, space, avionics, and MedTech. Today, DP Patterning has 45 employees, of whom 10 work within engineering.
We are a family business where every person makes a difference. Everything we do is based on our values: Pioneering - Integrity - Commitment. This means that we dare to think innovatively, take responsibility for each other and our customers, and do not give up when things get tough.
About the role
As an automation engineer at DP Patterning, you will work with the PLC and electrical systems that control the company's production equipment. You will work closely with both the machines and the production environment and have a practical approach to everything from programming and troubleshooting to commissioning and further development of the equipment.
An important part of the role is to understand why a problem occurs and find a long-term solution, rather than just getting the machine running again. You will therefore work systematically with troubleshooting in both PLC and electrical systems and be involved throughout the entire process when new equipment is installed, tested, and put into production.
Your tasks will include, among others:
- Programming, development, and maintenance of PLC systems
- Troubleshooting of PLC-controlled production equipment
- Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics
- Commissioning of new equipment, from installation to stable production
- Reading and working from electrical schematics
- Collaborating with other engineers to translate functional requirements into working solutions
- Ensuring that new PLC solutions work together with DP Patterning's existing automation architecture
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for you who have built a good foundation in automation and are now ready to take the next step and continue to develop in a technology-driven environment.
For example, you may have a few years of experience working with automation, PLC programming, or related areas. You do not need to be a senior specialist, but we would like to see that you feel comfortable working practically with automation systems and have sufficient experience to be able to contribute independently while continuing to develop your technical competence together with the team.
To succeed in the role, we believe you have:
- A technical education in automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer engineering, IT, or a similar field
- Experience in PLC programming
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
- Knowledge in electrical troubleshooting
- Experience in HMI programming, preferably TwinCAT HMI
- Good knowledge of English
If you have developed equivalent competence through professional experience instead of formal education, it is equally interesting.
DP Patterning works with, among others, Beckhoff, so experience with Beckhoff and Structured Text is highly meritorious, but not a requirement.
Experience in any of the following is also considered meritorious:
- Git or other version control systems
- Updating electrical schematic documentation
- Motion programming and configuration of drive systems
- Industrial Ethernet protocols, for example EtherCAT
- Vision systems
- SQL/NoSQL databases
As a person, you are curious and like to understand how things actually work. When something goes wrong, you work methodically to find the root cause instead of settling for the fastest temporary solution. You enjoy collaborating with others, while also being comfortable taking responsibility for driving your own work forward.
What DP Patterning offers
At DP Patterning, you will become part of a growing Swedish technology company where development, production, and engineering work closely together. You will collaborate with colleagues in several engineering disciplines, with short decision paths and good opportunities to contribute your own ideas and influence how the work develops.
You will have the opportunity to work with a self-developed and patented technology with a clear sustainability focus, while developing together with the company and gradually taking on greater responsibility.
And of course, it should also be fun to go to work. DP Patterning offers flexibility and the possibility of hybrid work, wellness grants, health insurance, and occupational pension. And if you want to fit in a workout, or perhaps even a few golf swings, there is both a fully equipped gym and a golf simulator on site.
