LEW

Licensed Electrical Workers (LEW) Grade 7 and above are certified professionals authorized by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) to carry out electrical works.

Grade 7 Electrician:

• Responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical installations with a voltage not exceeding 1,000V and an approved load up to 45kVA.
• Authorized to work on installations up to 500kVA under the supervision of a Grade 8 Electrical Technician.
• Note: Cannot independently endorse electrical plans or apply for electrical installation licenses.

Grade 8 Electrical Technician:

• Responsible for the installation, maintenance, operation, and testing of electrical installations with a voltage not exceeding 1,000V and an approved load up to 500kVA.
• Authorized to design and submit electrical installation plans for systems with an approved load up to 150kVA (excluding gas discharge lighting circuits).
• Permitted to perform high-voltage switching operations, but only under the direct supervision of an authorized engineer.

Grade 9 Electrical Engineer:

• Takes full professional responsibility for the design, installation, maintenance, operation, and testing of electrical installations within the specific high-voltage limits stated on their license (e.g., 22kV, 66kV, 230kV, or 400kV).
• Authorized to independently perform high-voltage switching operations within their licensed voltage range.
