Company Description Iwari is a social impact organization that co-creates experiences of adventure, experiential learning, and skill-building with teenage girls in rural and marginalized communities in Nigeria. The Iwari programme offers a transformative journey that supports participants in discovering their strengths, interests, and long-term aspirations. Through a structured four-stage process, Iwari guides teenage girls from self-discovery to practical, hands-on experience in various skill areas. Role Description The Hairstyling Trainer will design and deliver practical hairstyling sessions for teenage girls, demonstrating techniques such as hair care, braiding, styling, and basic grooming, in alignment with Iwari’s curriculum. This volunteer role is on-site in Ibadan and involves planning lesson content, preparing materials, and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment. The trainer will provide hands-on guidance, supervise practice activities, and offer constructive feedback to help participants build confidence and professional skills. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with Iwari staff, documenting learner progress, adapting teaching methods to different skill levels, and sharing insights that can strengthen the overall programme. The role also involves mentoring participants on how hairstyling skills can be translated into future income-generating opportunities and career pathways.

Qualifications

Strong practical hairstyling skills, including hair care, braiding, styling, and basic grooming techniques suitable for diverse hair types. Experience in training, teaching, or mentoring, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and support learners with varying skill levels. Ability to plan and structure lessons, manage small groups, and maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment. Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity when working with teenage girls from rural and marginalized communities. Good communication skills and basic record-keeping abilities to document attendance, progress, and training outcomes. Previous experience in beauty, cosmetology, or vocational skills training is an advantage. Willingness to volunteer on-site in Ibadan and collaborate closely with Iwari’s programme team.
