Payments Solutions Architect
About the company
Iserious is hiring a Payment Tech Lead/ Sr Tech Lead to own the technical side of how we take payments: every PSP, acquirer andpayment method integration, and the security, data and reporting around them.
Your tasks
Iserious runs international card and alternative payments for eSIM and digital content products across multiple PSPs. You will be theinternal authority on the payment tech stack, the person PSP tech teams deal with, and the owner of payment security and PCI DSSscope. The backend team builds and runs the core platform; you define what payments needs from it and make sure it ships right.
Payment tech stack and architecture
- Own the end-to-end payment architecture: checkout, authorization, capture, refunds, settlement and payouts across all PSPs.
- Design a payment abstraction layer so multiple PSPs sit behind one internal payment API, with routing, retries and failover between them.
- Keep transaction state, idempotency and ledger consistency correct across the full lifecycle.
- Write and maintain payment flow documentation, API contracts and architecture decision records.
PSP and acquirer integration
- Lead every new PSP and acquirer integration from scoping and sandbox testing to certification and go-live.
- Be the main technical contact for PSP tech and solutions teams (e.g. Nuvei, Airwallex, Stripe), including escalations and incident calls.
- Monitor PSP health and performance, and build smart routing based on approval rates, cost and availability.
- Assess the technical side of new PSP and partner proposals before we sign.
Payment method integration
- Integrate alternative payment methods and wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, local methods by market) and network tokens.
- Own webhooks, callbacks and asynchronous payment flows so payment status is always accurate.
3DS and authentication
- Own the 3DS2 / SCA implementation: frictionless vs challenge flows, exemptions (TRA, low value), and liability shift.
- Tune 3DS strategy with the risk team to balance fraud loss, approval rate and customer friction.
PCI DSS, data security and data management
- Own PCI DSS scope and annual compliance (SAQ or ROC) and keep card data out of our systems through tokenization and hosted fields where possible.
- Set and enforce controls for encryption, key and secrets management, access control and logging on payment data.
- Lead payment-related security incident response, including PSP and scheme notification steps.
- Own data retention, masking and data protection requirements (e.g. PDPA, GDPR) for payment and customer data.
Chargebacks and disputes
- Build and maintain the technical pipeline for chargebacks, retrievals, fraud alerts (TC40/SAFE), and dispute prevention tools (Ethoca, Verifi/RDR).
- Automate evidence collection and representment data feeds for the disputes team.
- Make sure chargeback, refund and alert data flows cleanly into risk monitoring.
Reporting and analytics
- Build payment reporting: authorization and decline rates by PSP, BIN, country and method; 3DS outcomes; chargeback and fraud ratios; fees and cost per transaction.
- Build automated reconciliation that matches internal records against PSP settlement reports and flags mismatches, duplicates and missing transactions.
- Set up threshold alerts for approval rate drops, decline spikes, settlement gaps and chargeback ratio spikes.
Backend and database management
- Own the payments data model and payment databases: schema, data quality, performance and audit trail.
- Review payment-related code and releases; nothing payment-critical goes live without sign-off.
- Make sure payment events and metrics are logged and observable for monitoring and investigations.
Working with the backend team
- Turn payment and risk needs into clear technical requirements for the backend team and agree delivery priorities.
- Work with the backend team on shared infrastructure, deployments and security controls.
Requirements
- 8+ years in software engineering or technical payments roles, with 4+ years hands-on in card payments at a PSP,acquirer, payment gateway, or a merchant with multi-PSP setup.
- Delivered multiple PSP or acquirer integrations end to end in production (REST APIs, webhooks, SDKs, hosted payment pages).
- Strong knowledge of the card payment lifecycle: authorization, capture, clearing, settlement, refunds, and the four-party model.
- Hands-on with 3DS2 / SCA, tokenization (network and PSP tokens), BIN data, AVS/CVV, and decline code handling.
- Working knowledge of Visa and Mastercard rules, including chargeback reason codes and dispute lifecycle.
- Practical PCI DSS experience: scoping, SAQ/ROC, and reducing scope through tokenization.
- Solid backend skills: API design, distributed systems, SQL and database design, logging and monitoring.
- Built payment reporting or reconciliation (approval rates, settlement matching, fees).
- Clear communicator in English who can work directly with PSP engineers and explain trade-offs to non-technical leaders.
- Experience with payment orchestration platforms or building smart routing and cascading.
- Hands-on with dispute prevention tools (Ethoca, Verifi/RDR) and fraud tools (device intelligence, risk scoring).
- Experience with digital goods, subscriptions, telecom/eSIM, or streaming payments, and their high-risk MCC considerations.
- Cross-border payments across APAC, North America and other regions, including local payment methods.
- Cloud security experience (AWS or similar), secrets management, and security incident response.
