Electromechanics Technician Cleanroom – On-the-job Training

Are you someone who prefers fixing things over talking about them? (Almost) graduated and ready to work with the most advanced high-tech machines — not just behind a laptop? Then imec’s Training Program is your next move!

You will actively participate in our semiconductor cleanroom in Leuven, where the chip technology of the future is being developed. And yes — that happens 24/7.

What you will do

In this Training Program, you will learn everything on the job. No hours of theory, but immediate participation in a high-tech environment, with guidance from experienced technicians, tool owners, and engineers.

The cleanroom is the beating heart of imec. This is where innovations are built for IT, healthcare, and energy — and you keep the tools running.

Step by step, you will gain more responsibility:

• You perform preventive maintenance and technical checks on advanced machines.
• You troubleshoot and assist in solving malfunctions.
• You assist with repairs and installations.
• You consult with tool owners about what can be improved.
• You share ideas for improvement — because your input counts.

In short: you learn how high-tech really works, from the inside out.

Shift work

Our cleanroom always keeps running, so you will too — in a 24/7 shift system:

• Week X: early shift (Mon–Fri)
• Week X+1: night shift (Mon–Fri)
• Week X+2: late shift (Mon–Wed), recovery (Thu–Fri), weekend = 12h shifts
• Week X+3: recovery (Mon–Wed), late shift (Thu–Fri)

Don't worry: this system also provides more days off and recovery time.

Who you are

You don't need to know everything already. A desire to learn is more important than a perfect CV. You are a good fit if you:

• Are in your 7th specialization year, associate degree or professional bachelor's (or nearly graduated) in Electromechanics, Electronics, Electricity, Mechanics…
• Enjoy hands-on work and are not afraid to get your hands dirty.
• Have an interest in technology, maintenance, and machines, specifically regarding pneumatics, motors, pumps, electronics.
• Value safety and have an eye for detail.
• Enjoy collaborating and want to make things a little bit better every day.
• Feel comfortable in an international environment where English is the working language.
