Project and Operations Engineer (m/f/d) (Project Engineer)
The Institute for Solar Physics (KIS) is a foundation under public law of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Its purpose is to conduct fundamental research in astronomy and astrophysics with a special focus on solar physics. Current research focuses on dynamic processes in the solar atmosphere, particularly their magnetic activity at high resolution in the photosphere and chromosphere, as well as corresponding numerical modeling based on observational data. Furthermore, modern scientific instruments for solar observations are developed at the Institute. Together with partners, KIS operates the German solar telescopes at the Teide Observatory in Tenerife, Spain, and specifically GREGOR, Europe's largest solar telescope. For the responsible structural-technical management of the GREGOR telescope, whose technical infrastructure is to be renewed and modernized over the next two to three years to ensure continued operation until at least 2030, KIS is looking for a
Project and Operations Engineer (m/f/d)
Your tasks in this position:
- Evaluation of the existing operating technology and infrastructure with regard to long-term and autonomous operation of GREGOR together with external specialist planners and experts
- Coordination and monitoring of the concept development for the modernization project at GREGOR in close coordination with the OT management team, the foundation board, and the funders
- Support and preparation of the concept decision by creating suitable decision templates for the board, the foundation council, and the funders
- Close accompaniment of the concept realization in all phases: - Participation in the creation of performance descriptions
- Participation in ensuring compliance with German construction law and German occupational safety regulations
- Participation in the awarding of contracts
- Monitoring the provision of services by the commissioned companies
- Reporting and participation in determining the implementation completion, the final acceptance, and the creation of final reports
- Responsible management of the overall observatory site
Your profile:
- completed degree in engineering sciences with professional experience
- several years of experience in the operation and operational support of large-scale scientific equipment, preferably in a solar observatory environment
- theoretical and practical knowledge in scientific instrument construction, preferably regarding opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical components
- very good knowledge and experience in project management and project controlling, including the creation of project reports
- professional communication skills in demanding international contexts and in cooperation with internal and external bodies
- business fluent language skills in English and Spanish
