*Position Overview:*
Primary Objective: Teach and mentor students in the visual mechanics of storytelling, balancing deep technical knowledge with artistic exploration.
Work Environment: On-site, hands-on, project-focused classroom and soundstage settings.
*Key Responsibilities:*
- *Curriculum Delivery:* Lead lectures, camera demonstrations, and practical workshops covering camera blocking, composition, exposure, and motion.
- *Lighting & Grip Instruction:* Train students on industry-standard lighting instruments, light modifiers, grip equipment, and electrical safety on set.
- *Student Mentorship:* Guide student film crews through pre-production planning, on-set execution, and troubleshooting under tight production timelines.
- *Assessment & Feedback:* Grade assignments, evaluate practical project work, and offer constructive, actionable technical critiques.
- *Curriculum Maintenance:* Collaborate with program heads to align course materials with current commercial and indie film workflows
*Qualifications*
- *Instructional Experience:* Required. Minimum one year of instructional experience in a post-secondary, vocational, industry-training, or adult-learning environment, or completion of a recognized adult education/training credential.
- *Industry Experience:* Professional credits or a strong portfolio as a Cinematographer, Director of Photography (DP), or senior Camera Operator.
- *Technical Proficiency:* Deep familiarity with modern digital cinema cameras (e.g., RED, ARRI, Sony), lenses, support gear, and lighting packages.
- *Communication Skills:* Strong interpersonal and public speaking abilities to explain complex technical concepts clearly to diverse skill levels.
- *Safety & Set Etiquette:* Knowledge of standard film set protocols, safety requirements (like WHMIS), and collaborative crew hierarchies.
Please note: the successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and must be located within the greater Vancouver area (classes are on-site).
