Postdoctoral Fellowship in Smart Antenna Systems

The Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicações - INATEL has an opportunity for a postdoctoral fellowship at the 5G and 6G Networks Competence Center of the Wireless and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (WAI Lab). The selected researcher will investigate the performance of emerging smart antenna technologies for next-generation wireless networks, in a project focused on the development of analytical and computational tools to model and evaluate the performance of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Fluid Antenna Systems (FAS), Mobile Antennas (MAs), noise-based modulation, and Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), addressing the limitations of existing approaches, which are either computationally expensive or inaccurate. The research aims to establish performance limits and scaling laws for these technologies under a variety of wireless propagation scenarios, allowing for the optimization of their efficiency in 5G and 6G networks. The results are expected to provide new theoretical insights and practical strategies to improve wireless communications, signal processing, and next-generation communication system design.

Responsibilities and duties Perform cutting-edge research; Prepare scientific articles, patents, and research reports; Participate in project meetings and scientific events; Assist in the supervision of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students; Collaborate with other project members, assuming a leadership role in defining the directions of scientific research.

Requirements and qualifications Requirements: Doctorate in electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer science, or a related field; Maximum of 10 years since obtaining the doctorate; Experience in smart antennas, statistics, probability, and machine learning.

Desired Skills: ● Statistics and Probability: Proficiency in statistical methods and probability theory. ● Antennas and Wireless Communication: Specialization in Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), fluid, reconfigurable, and mobile antennas; digital and wireless communication; physical layer technologies; multicarrier and orthogonal waveforms; MIMO systems; multiple access techniques; error correction codes; channel estimation; and equalization. ● Technologies: Familiarity with 5G, 6G, and IoT technologies. ● Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python, C++, C, MATLAB, and Mathematica. ● Machine Learning: Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and applications. ● Academic Contribution: Relevant academic publications demonstrated in high-impact scientific journals. ● Language Skills: Advanced proficiency in English.

Additional Information The vacancy is open to Brazilians and foreigners. The selected candidate will receive a Postdoctoral Fellowship of R$10,000.00 per month. Activity schedule: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Location of activities: Inatel Campus, in Santa Rita do Sapucaí - MG - Brazil.
