Credit Controller Blackburn | Office-based | £35,000–£40,000 per annum

Imperium Financial Recruitment is recruiting for Credit Controllers to join a large organisation managing an extensive property estate across the UK. Based at its Blackburn office, this is an opportunity to bring your credit control expertise to a substantial property portfolio and make a direct contribution to cash flow and financial performance.
Experience in property credit control would be advantageous, but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from experienced Credit Controllers across other sectors who can demonstrate effective debt collection, strong communication skills and a proactive approach.
The role
You will manage an allocated ledger, working to collect outstanding balances, resolve account queries and maintain accurate records. Building constructive relationships with tenants and internal colleagues will be central to your success.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing an allocated debtor ledger and taking ownership of overdue accounts.
- Collecting outstanding payments by telephone and email, maintaining a professional and persistent approach.
- Monitoring aged debt, prioritising collection activity and identifying accounts requiring further action.
- Building effective relationships with tenants and other account holders to encourage prompt payment.
- Investigating payment queries and disputes, working with property management and finance colleagues to resolve them.
- Reconciling accounts and investigating unallocated payments, discrepancies and outstanding balances.
- Agreeing payment arrangements within authorised guidelines and monitoring adherence.
- Maintaining clear, accurate records of collection activity, correspondence and agreed actions.
- Preparing updates on outstanding debt, collection progress and accounts requiring escalation.
- Supporting month-end reporting and contributing to improvements in credit control processes.
About you
You will be a confident and organised Credit Controller who combines a results-focused approach with the ability to handle conversations professionally.
You should bring:
- Previous experience in credit control or accounts receivable, including responsibility for collecting overdue debt.
- Strong telephone communication skills and the confidence to discuss outstanding payments.
- A proven ability to manage a busy ledger and prioritise your workload.
- Good account reconciliation skills and close attention to detail.
- The ability to investigate queries and work with colleagues to achieve a resolution.
- Confidence using accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- A proactive approach, sound judgement and the ability to work independently.
- A professional manner when handling sensitive or challenging conversations.
Experience collecting property-related debts, such as rent or service charges, would be particularly useful. However, strong credit control experience from another industry is equally welcome .
