Finance Officer Blackburn | Office-based | Salary from £35,000 per annum

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Finance Officer in Blackburn. This hands-on role offers the chance to become a key member of the finance team, keeping day-to-day accounting running smoothly and providing accurate information to support management decisions.

If you enjoy working with numbers, taking responsibility and ensuring everything balances, this could be an excellent next step. Previous experience using Sage is essential, with Sage 50 experience particularly relevant.

The role

You will play an important part in maintaining accurate financial records, managing supplier payments and supporting financial reporting. Working closely with colleagues and management, you will bring accuracy, organisation and a proactive approach to a varied workload.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing accounts payable: Processing supplier invoices, maintaining accurate purchase ledger records and ensuring payments are made on time.
  • Maintaining financial records: Recording and updating transactions using Sage 50, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
  • Completing reconciliations: Reconciling bank statements and ledger accounts, investigating discrepancies and resolving outstanding items.
  • Supporting financial reporting: Assisting with the preparation of financial reports, budgets and forecasts for management review.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end: Helping to complete closing procedures accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Maintaining financial controls: Ensuring transactions follow established procedures and that supporting documentation is complete.
  • Assisting with audits: Preparing records and responding to requests for documentation and explanations.
  • Improving processes: Identifying practical ways to make everyday finance tasks more efficient and reliable.

About you

You will be an experienced finance professional who takes pride in accurate work and enjoys seeing tasks through to completion. You should bring:

  • Proven experience using Sage — essential.
  • Previous experience in a finance, accounting or bookkeeping role.
  • A strong understanding of accounts payable, purchase ledger processes and general ledger maintenance.
  • Experience completing bank and ledger reconciliations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the confidence to investigate discrepancies.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • An understanding of sound bookkeeping practices and financial reporting requirements.
  • The ability to work independently and communicate effectively with colleagues, suppliers and auditors.
  • A relevant finance or accounting qualification would be advantageous, although practical experience is highly valued.
