Job Overview A head chef is the main leader in a professional kitchen. They oversee everything from cooking and plating to ordering supplies and managing staff. Key Responsibilities Menu Planning: Create and design new recipes, dishes, and seasonal menus. Kitchen Management: Direct daily food prep, cooking, and plating. Inspect every dish before it goes to a customer. Staff Leadership: Hire, train, schedule, and supervise cooks and kitchen helpers. Inventory & Budget: Order ingredients, track stock, manage suppliers, and control food costs. Safety & Sanitation: Maintain strict hygiene, food safety, and health regulations. Requirements and Qualifications Experience: At least 3 to 5 years working in a professional kitchen, often moving up from roles like line cook or sous chef. Education: A culinary arts degree or vocational certificate is often preferred. Skills: Strong leadership, clear communication, organization, and a refined sense of taste. Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long hours in a hot, fast-paced environment.
