Head of Casualty

An established specialist underwriting platform is launching a new Casualty practice and is looking for an ambitious underwriting leader to build it from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to shape a book from day one, with the backing of an experienced business and a remuneration model that rewards you directly for the success of what you create. The Opportunity Casualty is a strategic priority for the business, and this hire will set the direction for the entire line. You'll define the underwriting strategy and appetite, build and lead the team, and work closely with capacity providers to grow a profitable, sustainable portfolio. The business views this as a five-year journey and is looking for someone who wants to build something meaningful rather than inherit an existing book. About You The business is open to candidates from either an insurance or a reinsurance background. What matters most is: A strong track record of leading and growing a profitable Casualty portfolio International Casualty experience, which will be viewed particularly favourably Credibility with capacity providers and the ability to support the case for backing a new line Established broker and market relationships An entrepreneurial mindset, and the drive and leadership to build a team and practice from scratch Remuneration This role offers a highly differentiated package designed to align your rewards with the performance of the practice: A competitive base salary, benchmarked against Lloyd's Participation in a company-wide profit share Practice-level economics: a share of the practice's operating profit after costs, calculated on an agreed split 50% of any profit commission received on the practice's business, paid once received Significant earning potential, with total earnings of £750,000-£800,000 possible by year two for a particularly successful line For the right person, this is the chance to combine the freedom of building your own practice with the support of an established platform, and to be rewarded like an owner for doing it.
