*About the Role*
Scentroid is seeking a hands-on *Mechatronics Engineer* to join our growing engineering and R&D team in Stouffville, Ontario. This role will support the development, integration, testing, and continuous improvement of advanced air quality monitoring, odour measurement, and sensor-based systems.
The successful candidate will work across mechanical, electrical, embedded software, and sensing technologies to help bring new products from concept through prototyping, testing, validation, and production. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving practical technical problems, working directly with hardware, and contributing to multidisciplinary product development.
*Key Responsibilities*
- *3 to 5 years of professional experience in mechatronics engineering, product development, or a closely related engineering role.*
- Collaborate with engineering, R&D, manufacturing, software, and other cross-functional teams to develop air quality monitoring, odour measurement, and sensor-based devices.
- Design and integrate mechanical, electrical, electronic, and software components into complete mechatronic systems.
- Support development of new products from initial concept and prototyping through testing, validation, and production.
- Develop, assemble, test, and iterate prototypes to meet product specifications, performance requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, embedded software, PCB, sensor, and system integration issues.
- Perform calibration testing and technical analysis to verify system and sensor performance.
- Identify inefficiencies or inconsistencies in calibration, testing, and manufacturing procedures and recommend improvements.
- Assist with PCB troubleshooting, system debugging, component evaluation, and hardware integration.
- Develop and modify mechanical components, assemblies, enclosures, and related designs using CAD software.
- Work with embedded systems and microcontrollers, including programming and debugging using C++.
- Analyze test results, field data, customer feedback, and system performance to identify opportunities for product optimization.
- Support the integration and evaluation of new sensing technologies.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including design files, test results, technical procedures, system configurations, and revision records.
- Provide technical support to customers, distributors, the sales team, and internal staff regarding product functionality, troubleshooting, maintenance, and system performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate customer issues and implement practical technical solutions.
- Participate in engineering and project meetings to communicate progress, priorities, technical challenges, and development requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across product development, testing, calibration, and manufacturing.
- Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills to support Scentroid's research, engineering, and product innovation initiatives.
*Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of C++ programming is required.
- Experience with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or comparable CAD software.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and debugging mechatronic systems, electronic hardware, sensors, and printed circuit boards.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, and hardware integration.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and resourcefulness.
- Ability to diagnose technical issues systematically and develop practical solutions.
- Strong computer and technical documentation skills.
- Clear and professional written and verba
