HR Consultant
About the company
At HRCentral, we aim to deliver the best possible outcome for our clients.
HOW WE WORK We've been doing this since 2006. HRCentral was founded by Rebecca Woolmington, who still owns and runs the business. We're not a franchise, so there's no diluted service and no script. Our advice is clear, pragmatic, and straight to the point. Too many consultancies hedge with "coulds" and "maybes." We don't.
We assess the options and give our clients a clear answer they can act on. We're happy to call ourselves HR geeks. We stay ahead of the curve on employment legislation, case law and best practice, so our clients stay compliant and can use HR to grow.
We don't run a rigid account management model. Whoever picks up the phone is up to speed on that client's business, so you'll know our clients well and work as a seamless extension of their team, alongside their board, decision makers and line managers. We cover the whole employee lifecycle, from recruitment through performance management, development, conflict resolution and retention. We also support clients with health and safety, TUPE and pre-sale HR due diligence, helping protect their valuation when they sell.
Our clients are UK-wide and from every sector, from STEM to retail and accountancy to marketing, ranging from micro businesses to larger SMEs.
Your tasks
You'll manage a portfolio of clients, combining employee relations, recruitment and learning and development. Management training and coaching •

- Run programmes on core people-management skills such as difficult conversations, performance and absence •
- Coach line managers through live people issues so they can handle them confidently on their own •
- Deliver in person, by video call and through our cloud-based training portals •
- Use DISC to help managers understand themselves, their teams and how to get the best from them.
Employee relations and HR consultancy •
- Handle a varied ER caseload covering performance, absence, disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, redundancy and dismissal •
- Chair or support hearings and investigations on complex cases •
- Apply case law and tribunal precedent so advice stands up to scrutiny •
- Assess tribunal risk and advise clients on settlement, mitigation and next steps •
- Lead or support TUPE transfers and restructures •
- Draft contracts and bespoke policies that fit each client's business, not generic templates
Recruitment •
- Advise on recruitment strategy and help write job descriptions •
- Shortlist and interview using our Applicant Tracking System •
- Organise psychometric assessments and headhunting where needed
Raising our profile •
- Contribute to newsletters, blogs and LinkedIn •
- Build relationships with clients, partners and employment lawyers
Requirements
We've been described as tenacious because we fight hard for the businesses we support. We're looking for an HR Generalist who shares that instinct: someone who thinks commercially, works at pace, and can stand in front of a room of managers and make them better at their jobs.
ABOUT YOU •
- You've delivered management training and enjoy designing it as much as running it •
- You've used DISC (accreditation is a real plus) •
- You think like a business partner and understand that good HR protects a client's people, reputation and bottom line •
- You thrive at pace, can prioritise a heavy caseload and switch between clients without losing track •
- You have solid ER experience and working knowledge of employment law and case law •
- You're decisive, give a clear recommendation and stand behind it •
- You're a strong communicator who builds long-lasting client relationships •
- You're tech-savvy across Microsoft Office, ATS, HRIS and e-learning platforms •
- You'll roll up your sleeves, work well in a small team, and bring a good sense of humour
You might currently be an HR Manager, HR Business Partner, HR Consultant or senior HR Advisor.
