About the company

We're working with an established civil engineering and drainage contractor delivering essential wastewater infrastructure services across the South West.

Your tasks

Due to continued growth and ongoing contract requirements, they're looking to recruit two experienced Gangers to lead small teams working across Devon and Cornwall.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, takes pride in leading a team and is looking for a secure, permanent position with an established business.

THE GANGER - CIVILS & DRAINAGE ROLE As a Ganger, you'll be responsible for leading a team of two to three operatives delivering civils and foul-water drainage works across residential, commercial and rural sites.

This is very much a hands-on role, so you'll be working alongside your team whilst ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Leading and coordinating daily activities for a small team of operatives
  • Carrying out civils, drainage, pipe fitting and reinstatement works
  • Operating and working alongside excavators, dumpers and other site equipment
  • Completing risk assessments, permits and relevant site documentation
  • Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Liaising with clients, customers and site representatives
  • Providing daily progress updates to supervisors and management
  • Supporting reactive works and participating in a one-in-five on-call rota

Requirements

GANGER - CIVILS & DRAINAGE ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Previous experience working as a Ganger, leading a small operational team
  • A minimum of three years' experience within the water, utilities or drainage industry
  • Practical experience across both civils and drainage works
  • Experience working on foul-water drainage systems
  • Confident carrying out physical site work alongside your team
  • Good understanding of site safety, risk assessments and permit requirements
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel across Devon and Cornwall as required

Excavator tickets above and below 10 tonnes, alongside a dumper ticket, would be highly advantageous. However, candidates with strong civils, drainage and Ganger experience may still be considered, with training potentially available for the right person.

We'd also welcome applications from ex-forces candidates who have gained relevant civils and drainage experience, alongside strong practical leadership skills.
