Are you an experienced Payroll Assistant looking to join a well-established accountancy practice where you can manage a varied client portfolio and develop your payroll expertise within a supportive team? We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established and growing accountancy practice based in Keighley, who are looking to appoint a Payroll Assistant to join their busy payroll department. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous payroll experience who enjoys working with a varied client portfolio and is looking to develop their career within a friendly and supportive accountancy practice. You will support the accurate and timely processing of client payrolls across a range of pay frequencies, ensuring compliance with current payroll legislation and HMRC requirements while providing a responsive service to clients and their employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls for a varied portfolio of clients.
  • Calculate statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and ShPP.
  • Process new starters and leavers accurately and within required timescales.
  • Manage pension submissions and auto-enrolment requirements.
  • Submit Real Time Information (RTI) returns to HMRC.
  • Respond to payroll queries from clients and employees.
  • Produce payslips and payroll reports.
  • Assist with year-end payroll procedures, including P60s and P11Ds.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Support the wider team with ad hoc office duties as required.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous payroll experience, ideally gained within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau environment.
  • Good working knowledge of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
  • Confident using payroll software; experience with IRIS Staffology Payroll would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively to payroll deadlines.
  • Strong communication and client service skills.
  • A positive, proactive approach with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
