The Institute for Experimental Virology, under the direction of Prof. Thomas Pietschmann at TWINCORE, is looking for a technical assistant to support research on vaccines against the Hepatitis C virus.

Technical Assistant (m/f/d)

TWINCORE is a joint facility of the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Infektionsforschung (HZI) and the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (MHH). At TWINCORE, medical professionals and basic scientists conduct joint research in infection research, particularly at the interface between basic research and clinical development. This basic research aims to develop new therapies and diagnostic procedures for patients while simultaneously finding answers to questions from clinical practice.

Our international and interdisciplinary research team is looking for a technical assistant to support us in the search for an effective prophylactic vaccine against the Hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Why this research is important:

The Hepatitis C virus (HCV) affects almost 50 million people worldwide, and despite the availability of antiviral therapies, many remain undetected or untreated. Every year, more than 240,000 people die from the consequences of HCV complications. The World Health Organization has classified HCV as a global health priority (PMID: 39500705). A preventive vaccine is urgently needed to reduce transmission and decrease the global disease burden.

As part of a dynamic and cooperative team, you will:

  • Support scientists in producing new vaccine candidates and testing them in mouse models
  • Test antibodies from mouse sera
  • Cultivate mammalian cells and assist in infection experiments
  • Help the team of technical assistants at the institute with laboratory organization

Your qualifications and skills:

  • Completed vocational training as a Technical Assistant (such as BTA, MTA, or comparable qualifications)
  • Practical experience in the field of cell culture, virology, and/or microbiology is desirable
  • Experience as well as willingness to participate in animal testing, such as sampling or animal controls, is advantageous
  • English language skills, both written and spoken
  • Ability to work in a team

Advantageous for this position:

  • Good communication skills in an international and multicultural work environment
  • Organizational skills and accuracy
  • Knowledge or experience in a Biosafety Level 3 laboratory
  • Basic skills in using Microsoft Office (Excel/Word)

We offer you:

  • An attractive and varied activity in a future-oriented research institute
  • State-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge technologies
  • Flexible working hours, part-time models, and home office
  • A corporate culture of appreciation and promotion of equal opportunities
  • Extensive training and further education opportunities to develop professional knowledge and personal skills
  • A family office to support family and career, as well as childcare offers
  • Interesting additional benefits of the public service
  • Possibility of an employer subsidy for the Jobticket
