About the Opportunity

If you are a Senior Chartered Building Surveyor looking for a role with real influence, this is a strong opportunity to join a growing, RICS-accredited practice where you can lead complex instructions, advise clients directly and help shape the next stage of the business.

The team is currently made up of the business owner and three surveyors, all of whom are either Chartered or being supported on their path to Chartership. It is a close-knit, experienced environment where this appointment will add senior technical strength, support junior colleagues and contribute to continued growth.

The work spans RICS Level 2 and Level 3 residential surveys, complex defect diagnosis, repair and refurbishment projects, contract administration, Employer's Agent duties and specialist party wall and neighbourly matters across Devon and the surrounding region.

You do not need to be equally strong across every specialism, but you should bring demonstrable expertise in at least one of residential Level 3 surveys, party wall/neighbourly matters or project management and contract administration, with the ability to build capability across the rest.

It should suit an experienced surveyor who enjoys being trusted with more complex work, values high-quality client advice and wants a role where technical credibility, commercial judgement and mentoring all matter.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a senior, client-facing surveying role combining complex inspections, project leadership, professional instructions and technical guidance. Typical responsibilities will include:

• Leading RICS Home Survey Level 2 and Level 3 inspections, including complex, historic, listed or heavily altered properties
• Diagnosing defects and providing clear, practical and, where appropriate, costed advice on remedial works
• Producing high-quality technical reports for private clients, developers and adjoining owners
• Managing repair, alteration, extension and refurbishment projects from inception through to completion
• Preparing detailed schedules of work, technical specifications and tender documentation
• Acting as Contract Administrator or Employer's Agent, including contractor management, budgets, valuations and practical completion
• Handling party wall appointments, statutory notices, schedules of condition, awards and neighbourly dispute matters
• Mentoring junior team members and supporting business growth through trusted client relationships

About You

This would suit a senior, client-facing surveyor who can combine technical depth with clear communication, commercial awareness and a willingness to support others. You will ideally bring:

• MRICS or FRICS status
• Around 3-5 years' relevant post-qualification experience within Building Surveying
• Expertise in at least one of: RICS Level 3 residential surveys, party wall/neighbourly matters, or project management and contract administration
• Strong residential building pathology, technical reporting and client advisory skills
• Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, with JCT contract experience and GoReport exposure is useful
• Confidence managing sensitive contractor, client or neighbourly discussions
• The ability to mentor junior colleagues, support standards and contribute commercially as a trusted adviser

• Salary of £50,000 to £65,000, plus allowances
