Education:

Other trades certificate or diploma.

Work setting:

Tasks:

• Co-ordinate maintenance activities of trade contractors.
• Complete and maintain station records, logs and reports.
• Read electrical schematics, blueprints and other technical diagrams.
• Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunction.
• Assist during routine systems testing.
• Assist in locating and isolating system problems.
• Assist in the development of operation, maintenance and safety procedures.
• Clean and lubricate machinery and equipment.
• Investigate problems to fix or make minor repair.
• Issue work and test permits to electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel.
• Maintain daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities.
• Monitor and inspect plant equipment and systems to detect equipment malfunctioning and to ensure plant systems are operating normally.
• Operate automated or computerized control systems.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Regulate and co-ordinate transmission loads, frequency and line voltage.
• Regulate water levels.
• Start up and shut down power plant equipment.
• Write plant or building operation reports.

• Power System Trade Certification.
• Power Systems/Stations Operators Trade Certification.
• Stationary Engineer 4th Class.
• Stationary Engineering Trade Certification.
• Stationery Engineers Operators Trade Certification.
