Mechatronics Engineering Intern
ABOUT
Harmattan AI is a next-generation player in the defense sector, specializing in the design of autonomous and scalable systems. By combining advanced engineering, robotics, and artificial intelligence, we develop operational capabilities designed for the field.
Our rapid growth reflects a clear ambition: to equip armed forces with systems capable of meeting today's challenges. We are looking for profiles ready to commit to a demanding technical environment, with a strong sense of mission and impact.
ROLE
Within the Automation and Industrialization team, you will work in direct partnership with the automation engineer on the design of robotic solutions and mechatronic systems (actuators, cylinders, sensors, electromechanical integration).
The position covers the entire chain: mechanical design, integration, and motion through the development of machine programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical & Mechatronic Design
- Design and model mechanical and mechatronic subsystems (CAD)
- Size and select electromechanical and pneumatic components (actuators, cylinders, transmissions, sensors)
- Produce technical drawings and oversee prototype manufacturing
Programming & Automation
- Develop control and automation scripts (Python, URScript)
- Participate in the programming of microcontrollers, PLCs, and/or industrial computers (Raspberry Pi, PLC, IPC, “edge-computing” devices)
- Contribute to testing and data acquisition tools
Testing, Validation & Iterative Design
- Design and execute test protocols on prototypes
- Analyze results and iterate on the design
- Contribute to the debugging of electromechanical systems
Documentation & Methods
- Write technical documentation (specifications, bills of materials, procedures)
- Contribute to the structuring of design standards
- Implement a tracking system for automation projects
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work in partnership with the automation engineer on robotic projects
- Interact with internal teams (R&D, supply chain, IT) for project needs
- Interact with suppliers for component selection
PREREQUISITES
Academic Background
- Student in the final year of engineering school (Master's level) or equivalent, specializing in mechatronics, robotics, or mechanical engineering
- End-of-studies internship with a duration of 6 months
Technical Skills
- Solid mastery of mechanical design (CAD: SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Good foundations in mechatronics (qualification and integration of sensors/actuators, pneumatics, electromechanics)
- Real appetite for programming (Python, C/C++, PLC programming): you are not afraid to write code to bring your designs to life
Soft Skills
- Proactive: ability to drive technical topics from end to end by proposing concrete solutions.
- Curiosity: the unknown is an opportunity for you to learn more.
- Communication and influence: good written and oral communication skills, allowing interaction with various stakeholders in an international environment.
Proficiency in technical English is required.
- Commitment to the mission and the ambitious growth plans of Harmattan AI.
We look forward to learning how you can contribute to shaping the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
