Job Summary

The Finance Manager is responsible for over seeing the company's overall finance and accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cash-flow management, strong financial controls and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

The role will work closely with Management, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement and Administration teams to monitor project costs,profitability, budgets, cash flow and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Financial Management &Reporting
  • Oversee the company's full set of accounts and day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements and financial reports.
  • Monitor the company's financial performance, revenue, expenses, profitability and cash flow.
  • Prepare financial analysis and provide recommendations to Management for decision-making.
  • Prepare annual budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and investigate significant variances.
  1. Construction Project Finance & Cost Control
  • Monitor financial performance and profitability of construction projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors on project cost control and forecasting.
  • Monitor project revenue, costs, variations, claims, retention, progress billings and outstanding receivables.
  • Review project commitments, subcontractor costs, material costs and other project expenditures.
  • Identify potential cost overruns and financial risks and highlight them to Management.
  • Assist in evaluating the financial implications of tenders, contracts and major variations.
  1. Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
  • Monitor daily and monthly cash flow requirements.
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable to maintain healthy working capital.
  • Monitor customer collections, retention sums and outstanding progress claims.
  • Coordinate payment schedules with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Liaise with banks and financial institutions on banking facilities and financing matters.
  1. Accounting Operations

Supervise the Accounts team and ensure timely and accurate processing of:

  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable
  • General ledger
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Payroll
  • Fixed assets
  • GST
  • Inter-company transactions, where applicable
  • Ensure proper documentation and accounting records are maintained.
  • Review accounting entries and financial transactions for accuracy.
  1. Audit, Tax & Statutory Compliance
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax agents, company secretary and other professional advisers.
  • Ensure timely completion of annual audits and statutory financial reporting.
  • Oversee GST reporting and other tax-related matters.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
  1. Internal Controls & Risk Management
  • Develop and improve financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Ensure proper approval procedures are followed for purchases, payments, expenses and contracts.
  • Monitor financial risks relating to projects, customers, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Identify weaknesses in financial processes and recommend improvements.
  1. Management & Team Leadership
  • Lead, supervise and develop the Finance & Accounts team.
  • Allocate work and monitor the team's performance and deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and training to accounting staff.
  • Work closely with other departments to improve financial and administrative processes.
  • Support Management in strategic financial planning and business decisions.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.
  1. Digitalisation & Process Improvement
  • Review and improve accounting and financial processes through digitalisation and automation.
  • Ensure effective utilisation of accounting, ERP, project costing and financial reporting systems.
  • Improve the integration of project, procurement, payroll and accounting information where applicable.
  • Develop management reports and dashboards to improve financial visibility.
