Science Data Platform Development

The position is assigned to GSI's contribution to the "Science Data Platform" Work Package. The goal is the further development of the PUNCH "Science Data Platform" as a user-oriented environment for finding, curating, linking, and reusing research data, metadata, Digital Research Products, workflows, and research software. Furthermore, the position supports the institutional implementation and further development of PUNCH-compliant research data management processes at GSI.

Your tasks:

  • Participation in the development and integration of the PUNCH "Science Data Platform" as a central access point to research data, metadata, Digital Research Products, workflows, and scientific tools
  • Support for the service- and metadata-based integration of PUNCH components, especially in connection with authentication and authorization, registries, workflow tools, metadata services, and user-oriented platform components
  • Development and maintenance of components for metadata-based search, data findability, DRP publication, and registration of analysis results
  • Working with shared and domain-specific metadata, search and filter functions, JSON/API-based data exchange, as well as links between data, software, workflows, and publications
  • Support for workflow-oriented platform functions, including in the areas of resource monitoring, code-to-data approaches, provenance capture, and the reusability of research results
  • Participation in the further development of GSI-internal research data management services, particularly through the improvement of local metadata, repository, software, and publication workflows, as well as through interoperable interfaces between existing services
  • Creation of technical documentation, usage instructions, examples, and onboarding materials for PUNCH4NFDI and GSI-internal research data management services.
  • Coordination with scientific user groups, technical contacts, and project partners within GSI, PUNCH4NFDI, and the NFDI.

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree (Master or Diploma) in Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Computational Science, Information Science
  • or a comparable field of study
  • Knowledge in scientific software development, data modeling, and web-based research data infrastructures
  • Experience with Python or comparable programming languages, relational databases, REST interfaces, Git-based software development, and structured metadata formats such as JSON
  • Knowledge in the area of metadata schemas, FAIR principles, research data management workflows, Persistent Identifier, repository systems, and data/software publication is an advantage
  • Experience with Django or comparable web frameworks, authentication and authorization mechanisms, containerized environments, workflow systems, or CI/CD processes is desirable
  • Ability to work at the interface between software development, research data management, and scientific user support
  • Structured, independent, and team-oriented way of working as well as good communication skills
  • Good written and spoken English skills; German skills are an advantage.

The position is limited until 01.10.2028. The salary is based on the TVöD (Bund) collective agreement.
