About the company

GridIQ is building an energy-sector intelligence, advisory and media platform focused on Nigeria's electricity ecosystem. TAGIR (The Africa Grid Intelligence Report) is its premium platform for electricity-sector intelligence, analysis, interviews, research and stakeholder engagement.

We work with government, regulators, power-sector businesses, investors, development organisations, technology companies and corporate partners. As the platform grows, we need people who can open doors for us and turn conversations into commercial relationships.

Your tasks

About the role We're looking for three commercially minded, resilient associates who can identify prospects, build interest and move business forward for GridIQ and TAGIR. You will personally prospect, make outreach, present approved offerings, follow up with buyers and support conversion, while carrying out agreed marketing activities alongside.

Sales development is your primary responsibility, supported by focused promotion. Depending on the active commercial plan, your assignment may cover advertising, sponsorships, event participation and relevant intelligence or advisory services.

You won't be starting from scratch. Before you begin, you'll receive a defined offering, target audience and assignment scope. Our Commercial Lead provides the product briefing, approved pricing and sales materials, and supports you on complex pitches and closing.

Prospect and develop opportunities • Identify suitable organisations and decision-makers, and build and maintain a prioritised prospect list

• Conduct professional outreach, understand each prospect's needs, qualify interest and arrange relevant sales conversations

• Present approved offerings and prepare tailored proposals or quotations using agreed templates

• Follow up with purpose, address routine objections and agree clear next steps

Progress opportunities and support closing • Manage your assigned opportunities through the sales process and coordinate the Commercial Lead's involvement in pitches and negotiations

• Seek customer confirmation on approved terms, and escalate discounts, credit requests, unusual scope and contract changes

• Record confirmed requirements, hand over accepted business accurately and support payment follow-up with the commercial team

Execute focused marketing activities • Promote agreed offerings and events through approved channels, professional networks and direct outreach

• Use the materials we supply, and contribute practical campaign ideas of your own

• Track enquiry sources and campaign response, and report customer feedback, objections and competitor insights

How you'll work with us You'll keep a shared tracker up to date with contacts, lead source, opportunity stage, next action and outcome. Prospects are registered before you pursue them, so the Commercial Lead can confirm account allocation, check existing accounts and resolve any overlap before outreach begins.

You'll use approved claims and communication methods, protect contact information and honour communication preferences. Pricing exceptions and commercial terms are approved by the Commercial Lead, and only authorised company signatories can execute contracts. The company invoices customers and receives all payments, so associates never receive funds into personal accounts.

Requirements

Who we're looking for • Evidence of winning customers, selling services or generating qualified sales opportunities. Marketing experience is useful, but please explain your personal contribution and results.

• Strong communication, prospecting, presentation and follow-up skills, with sound judgement when representing a business

• Commercial awareness, accurate opportunity records and the ability to work independently against agreed deliverables

• A background in banking or financial services sales, media agencies, print or digital media, advertising, events, professional services or another relationship-led environment

• Sponsorship, advertising or event sales experience is an advantage

• Energy-sector experience and an existing contact network are welcome but not essential

• A relevant qualification is welcome, but demonstrated ability and results matter more than a particular degree or previous title

The qualities that matter most • Commercial initiative: You identify worthwhile prospects and connect our offering to their needs.

• Resilience: You handle rejection constructively, follow up consistently and adapt your pitch when needed.

• Professional judgement: You are credible, prepared and measured with customers.

• Ownership and integrity: You keep your commitments, report honestly and avoid promises beyond your approved authority.

What we offer

Engagement and compensation There are three freelance openings, each with a fixed assignment fee or retainer plus a sales incentive. The fixed fee covers the agreed work independently of sales conversion.Amounts, scope, duration, payment dates and incentive rates will be agreed in writing before you accept.

Incentive terms will define eligible sales, attribution, shared deals, payment triggers and deadlines, cancellations, refunds and opportunities still active at the end of an assignment. Field visits, event attendance and reimbursable expenses require prior agreement.

How to apply

  • Please submit your CV or profile, your sales results and your availability. Selection may include a sales scenario. Before you accept, you'll receive the initial offering, target audience, fee and incentive terms, and your product briefing, materials and account allocation will come before any outreach begins.

Other

What success looks like Targets are agreed for each assignment, based on the offering, the sales cycle, the support available and the starting pipeline. Measures may include accepted qualified opportunities, proposals progressed, confirmed sales, attributable collected revenue and relevant event registrations.

A qualified opportunity must meet agreed criteria for customer fit, a relevant need and a credible next step. Activity counts and social media reach are supporting indicators only. We assess you on work and outcomes you can reasonably influence, and we record your contribution to each result.
