Financial Controller

Rubery, Birmingham An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join an established and growing privately owned group of companies based in Rubery, Birmingham. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, leading the finance team and providing accurate financial information and commercial insight to support the continued growth of the business. This role would suit an experienced Finance Manager or Management Accountant looking to step into their first Financial Controller position, or an existing FC looking for a broad, hands-on SME role. Key Responsibilities * Preparation of monthly management accounts, reporting and forecasts * Budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management * Bank and balance sheet reconciliations * VAT, PAYE and CIS reporting * Oversight of monthly payroll * Year-end accounts and liaison with external auditors * Management and development of the finance team * Maintenance of fixed asset registers * Development of financial controls, systems and processes * Supporting departmental managers with budgets and performance * Providing commercial analysis and insight to the Managing Director * Identifying cost savings and opportunities to improve performance * Supporting the MD and Board with financial strategy, investment decisions and ad hoc projects About You You will ideally have: * Strong management accounting and financial reporting experience * Budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow experience * Good understanding of balance sheet controls and reconciliations * Experience managing or developing finance staff * Strong Excel and accounting systems knowledge * Excellent communication and organisational skills * A proactive, hands-on approach with the confidence to work directly with senior management Experience within construction, distribution or a similar SME environment would be advantageous. Knowledge of CIS and Pegasus Opera would also be beneficial but is not essential. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of a finance function, work closely with the Managing Director and play an important role in the continued development of an established business.
