Property Loss Adjuster - Domestic & Commercial
Property Loss Adjuster - Domestic & Commercial
Location: Reading and surrounding areas (covering the local area and wider Berkshire region depending on location and experience)
Overview:
We are working with an established UK loss adjusting business that is looking to strengthen its Property team in the Reading area.
They are looking for experienced Property Loss Adjusters to manage a caseload of domestic and commercial claims from initial instruction through to settlement. The work is varied and can include fire, flood, escape of water, storm, impact, theft, malicious damage, subsidence and other insured perils, covering buildings, contents, business interruption and alternative accommodation.
You will have responsibility for your own claims and will be expected to attend site, investigate the circumstances and extent of the loss, consider policy cover, set reserves, agree repair strategies and work with policyholders, insurers, brokers and other experts to bring claims through to a suitable resolution.
There is also good scope to develop your career within the wider Property operation. Depending on your experience and career goals, this could lead into Senior Loss Adjusting, High Net Worth, Commercial Property, Major and Complex Loss, Subsidence, technical specialist or management roles.
Role Responsibilities:
- Taking ownership of a portfolio of domestic and commercial Property claims from instruction through to conclusion.
- Conducting site visits throughout Reading and the surrounding area to investigate losses and establish the appropriate claims strategy.
- Establishing the cause, circumstances and extent of loss and assessing the validity of claims.
- Reviewing policy wordings, schedules, endorsements and exclusions when considering indemnity and liability.
- Managing claims involving fire, flood, storm, escape of water, impact, theft, malicious damage, subsidence and other Property perils.
- Assessing damage to buildings and contents, including consideration of alternative accommodation, loss of rent and business interruption where applicable.
- Preparing clear and detailed reports for insurers and delegated authority clients, providing recommendations around liability, quantum, reserves and next steps.
- Setting, monitoring and updating reserves throughout the claim.
- Agreeing appropriate scopes of repair and reviewing estimates, contractor proposals and cash settlement options.
- Instructing and managing appropriate experts, including surveyors, engineers, forensic specialists, restoration companies and contractors.
- Maintaining regular communication with policyholders, commercial clients, brokers, insurers and other stakeholders.
- Recognising potential recovery, contribution, subrogation and fraud opportunities or concerns.
- Negotiating claims and settlements within the appropriate level of authority.
Experience:
- Previous experience working as a Property Loss Adjuster.
- Experience dealing with domestic and/or commercial Property claims.
- A strong understanding of Property policy coverage, indemnity, liability, quantum and claims strategy.
- Demonstrable ability to manage a caseload independently and take ownership of claims through to settlement.
- Comfortable carrying out site investigations and dealing directly with policyholders, clients and professional representatives.
- Experience with larger or more complex losses would be beneficial, particularly for candidates seeking a more senior appointment.
- CII and/or CILA qualifications are advantageous, with support available for further professional development.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the local and surrounding area.
Career Development & Package:
The business has a substantial Property operation, providing Adjusters with the opportunity to build their technical experience and progress without necessarily having to move outside the organisation to develop their career.
Depending on your interests and experience, there are opportunities to progress into Senior Loss Adjusting, High Net Worth, Commercial Property, Major and Complex Loss, Subsidence, technical specialist and management positions. For those who prefer to remain technically focused, there is also scope to build a portfolio of increasingly complex and higher value claims.
The role provides a high degree of autonomy, with flexibility around diary management, site visits and caseload. Alongside this, the business offers structured technical development and support towards professional qualifications.
