Payroll Officer Central London | W1W £28,000–£35,000 per annum DOE Permanent | Full-time ASAP start
We are recruiting an experienced Payroll Officer to join a growing Central London accountancy firm. This position has arisen due to continued growth and would suit someone who is confident managing multiple client payrolls and understands the pace, accuracy and deadlines involved in working within an accountancy practice or similar client-focused payroll environment. You'll take responsibility for the accurate and timely end-to-end processing of weekly, four-weekly, monthly and annual client payrolls , while providing a professional and responsive service to clients and employees. Previous experience within a chartered accountancy firm, accountancy practice, payroll bureau or similar multi-client environment would be particularly advantageous.
What will you be doing?
As Payroll Officer, you'll manage payrolls from start to finish, including:
- Processing multiple client payrolls accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Maintaining employee payroll records including tax, benefits and pension information
- Checking and validating payroll data and investigating discrepancies
- Responding to payroll queries from clients and employees
- Processing statutory payments, PAYE, National Insurance and pension contributions
- Supporting auto-enrolment pensions, including NEST schemes where applicable
- Preparing payroll reports and obtaining client authorisation
- Issuing payslips through My ePay Window
- Completing and submitting RTI returns to HMRC, including FPS and EPS submissions
- Completing year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds
- Setting up new clients on payroll and pension systems
- Ensuring opening payroll information is complete and accurate
- Keeping up to date with HMRC guidance, payroll legislation and statutory requirements
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and working practices
About You
We're looking for someone with strong practical UK payroll knowledge who is comfortable taking ownership of multiple payrolls and working to regular processing deadlines. You'll ideally have:
- Previous experience processing multiple client payrolls from start to finish
- Experience gained within a chartered accountancy firm, accountancy practice, payroll bureau or similar environment
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
- Good understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, RTI, statutory payments and pensions
- Experience of payroll year-end processes
- Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail
- The ability to prioritise a busy workload and meet multiple deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence dealing directly with clients and building professional relationships
- A proactive approach to resolving payroll queries and discrepancies
- Discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
The firm uses Staffology , so previous experience with Staffology would be particularly advantageous, although strong experience with other payroll systems will also be considered.
