The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has an international character with approximately 300 employees from over 50 different countries. The department is an integrated institution with both University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology as principals. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is now seeking a postdoc. The position is located at the Logic and types unit, the Computing science division at the department, with University of Gothenburg as the employer.
Subject: Type Theory and programming languages
Subject description
The project concerns the compilation of cubical type theory: the construction of a compiler that translates from cubical type theory to (hopefully efficient) executable code. This includes proving that the compiler is correct. The compiler should preferably also support the removal of code that is not needed for program execution.
Tasks
The position is a two-year full-time post within the research group in Logic and types at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. You are expected to conduct high-quality research and publish your results in leading international journals and conference proceedings. You must be able to work both independently and as part of a team and communicate results orally and in writing.
The position may include teaching at the department, including supervision of bachelor's and master's theses. In such cases, teaching will constitute at most 20% of the working time. You may also participate as a co-supervisor for doctoral students.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a teacher is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 and University of Gothenburg's employment regulations. Those eligible to be employed as a postdoc are those who have obtained a doctoral degree in a relevant subject area, for example within computer science, or who have a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree. The doctoral degree must have been obtained no later than the starting point when the employment decision is made. In the first instance, priority should be given to those who obtained their degree at most three years before the end of the application period. Those who obtained their degree earlier should also be considered in the first instance if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade unions, service within the total defense, or other similar circumstances as well as clinical service or service/assignments relevant to the subject area.
Assessment basis
Competitive candidates are expected to have a strong research background, experience working with cubical type theory, and preferably also experience in programming language implementation/compilation. However, we also welcome candidates working in related areas. Experience in supervising doctoral students, master's students, and also teaching in advanced courses will be considered merits. The applicant must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. The ability to cooperate and take initiative are important qualities, as are accuracy and interest in research. During the evaluation of applicants, special emphasis will be placed on the ability to conduct research within the relevant research area. Both Swedish and English are used in basic teaching, while English is the working language for research at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Thus, both oral and written proficiency in English are mandatory.
