More information about the department can be found at http://www.pol.gu.se The Department of Political Science is now seeking an assistant researcher for the research project ”The Local Quality of Government (Lo-QoG) dataset: A hub for local societal indicators across Europé” / (Lokala data över Europa: en plattform med lokala indikatorer för korruptionsrisker och samhälleliga fenomeN) The employment is a temporary position with a scope of 100% for 6 months. Tasks As a database manager, you will work with the next phase of the LoQoG project together with the data team. The focus is on collecting and preparing data at the municipal level in EU member states. The main goal is to integrate statistical data with previously collected geographic data to compile a comprehensive database. Your tasks: Identify and collect data at the municipal level within various subject areas from actors such as national statistical agencies and European databases, to be able to integrate it with existing geographic data. Reconcile results with legislative documents and official registers, as well as verify license requirements for various data sources. Communicate with national authorities and data providers to obtain missing information or clarify questions regarding data quality. Prepare technical documentation (metadata) as well as prepare material for reports and presentations for the project's stakeholders.

You will be part of the department's research support, which consists of just over twenty people who contribute to the department's various research projects. The research support has regular shorter meetings. Qualifications We are looking for a candidate with at least a bachelor's degree in political science or a related subject area. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated person who has an interest in political science and data management. For the employment, basic knowledge of quantitative methods and data management is required. It is meritorious if you have experience in large-scale data collection projects, knowledge of R and/or Python, as well as experience working with spatial data (geodata), as the project involves the integration of geospatial data and large statistical datasets. The role requires you to be solution-oriented, proactive, and meticulous. You need to be able to identify and correct discrepancies in large datasets in an independent manner. We see that you have the ability to work both independently and in teams, as well as to maintain a research-oriented mindset. A structured and careful approach to data documentation and reporting is crucial for the role. We are looking for someone with excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written. Additional language skills in European languages are highly meritorious.
