Subject Description

Musical Performance encompasses artistic research where musical practice is an integrated and necessary part of knowledge production. Research within the subject investigates questions of music and sound creation, musical practice, artistic processes, performance, listening, materiality, technology, notation, embodiment, interpretation, interaction, as well as the relationship of music to societal and cultural contexts.

For this position, the focus is on improvisational and/or compositional practices in a broad sense. The area may include improvisation rooted in, for example, the Nordic jazz tradition, free improvisation, electronic music, or other experimental or tradition-based forms of musical expression. It may also include composition with an emphasis on, for example, electroacoustic music, sound art, music and sound production, live electronics, generative or interactive systems, digital instruments, as well as other artistic methods for music and sound creation.

We welcome applicants with their primary focus in improvisation, composition, or at the intersection of these areas.

Duties

The Assistant Professor shall conduct and develop research in musical performance, with a primary focus in improvisation, composition, or at the intersection of these areas.

Duties include formulating and conducting artistic research projects, documenting, critically reflecting upon, and communicating research processes and results in relevant artistic and academic formats, as well as actively applying for external research funding. The employee is expected to initiate and participate in national and international collaborations and actively participate in the department's research environment.

Teaching and supervision are included at undergraduate and advanced levels and, when applicable, at the doctoral level. Teaching will take place within the subject of musical performance and with a primary focus on the competence profile held by the employee. The employee is expected to contribute to the development of the education's content and forms and to a close and critically reflected relationship between artistic practice, research, and teaching.

Duties also include collaboration with the professional music and cultural life, participation in the department's collegial work, and administrative tasks. At least 50% of the duties consist of research.
