At the Department of Biology and Environmental Science (BioEnv), teaching and research are conducted covering a wide spectrum of environments, from alpine ecosystems via forests, agricultural landscapes, and watercourses to marine environments. Within these environments, we study different levels of biological organization, from genes, individuals, and populations to communities and ecosystems.
The position is co-funded by the strategic research area Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in a Changing Climate (BECC; http://www.becc.lu.se/), which is a collaboration between Lund University and University of Gothenburg. BECC brings together researchers in natural sciences and social sciences to conduct research that is central to understanding the effects of climate change on biodiversity and ecosystem services, as well as measures to mitigate and adapt society to these changes. The position is specifically linked to BECC's overarching research challenges ”Biodiversity under Global Change” and ”Ecosystem Services under Global Change”. Ecology and evolution of terrestrial arthropods
Subject description
The subject area covers ecology, evolution, diversity, and conservation of terrestrial arthropods. This includes studies of taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, interspecific interactions, and evolutionary processes, as well as the ecological roles of arthropods in natural and managed ecosystems.
Research and supervision tasks may be based on field studies and/or biological collections and shall contribute to an increased understanding of the distribution, diversity, and conservation of terrestrial arthropods, as well as their importance for terrestrial ecosystem function and for ecosystem services in a changing climate.
Tasks
The main purpose of the employment is to provide the person employed with good conditions to establish an independent and internationally competitive research profile within the ecology and evolution of terrestrial arthropods, and to develop the scientific and pedagogical merits required for promotion to Professor within five years.
The research may be focused on ecology, evolution, systematics, or other aspects concerning terrestrial arthropods and can be based on field studies and/or biological collections. Research tasks include developing an independent research program in arthropod ecology and evolution.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as Assistant Professor is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations.
Those eligible to be employed as Assistant Professor are those who have obtained a doctoral degree within the subject area of the employment or have equivalent scientific competence. Primarily, consideration should be given to those who have obtained a doctoral degree or have reached equivalent competence at most seven years before the application deadline for the position as Assistant Professor has passed. However, those who have obtained a doctoral degree or have achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, or other similar circumstances. The reasons, dates, and extent of the absence must be clearly specified in the application and supported by certificates.
The ability to teach in English is a requirement.
Broad knowledge of terrestrial arthropod ecology, evolution, taxonomy, and phylogeny is a requirement.
