Growth Manager
About the company
Barqly is building the next generation of food delivery and local commerce in Nigeria. We connect customers with restaurants and local businesses through convenient ordering and reliable delivery.
Your tasks
About the Role You'll own Barqly's growth strategy, focusing on customer acquisition, order volume, customer retention, revenue growth, and marketplace expansion.
You must understand the unique challenges of scaling a two-sided marketplace: acquiring customers while growing merchant participation, maintaining reliable delivery operations, encouraging repeat transactions, and building sustainable unit economics.
You'll work directly with the founding team, but you'll be expected to independently develop strategies, execute campaigns, analyze performance, and deliver results without constant supervision.
- Growth Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy to increase customer acquisition, completed orders, order frequency, and revenue.
- Customer Acquisition: Build scalable acquisition channels that convert prospective users into active, paying customers.
- Marketplace Growth: Understand and address the challenges of growing both sides of a marketplace, including customer demand, restaurant participation, and delivery capacity.
- Performance Marketing: Lead customer acquisition campaigns across Meta Ads, Google Ads, influencer marketing, and other relevant channels.
- Retention & Engagement: Develop referral programs, loyalty initiatives, promotional campaigns, and retention strategies that increase repeat orders.
- Local Market Expansion: Identify and execute strategies to increase Barqly's adoption across Ibadan and prepare for expansion into additional markets.
- Growth Analytics: Track customer acquisition costs, conversion rates, order frequency, retention, contribution margins, and return on marketing spend.
- Experimentation: Design, execute, and scale growth experiments based on measurable results.
- Strategic Partnerships: Build partnerships with restaurants, local businesses, content creators, communities, and other relevant growth channels.
- Execution & Accountability: Take ownership of growth initiatives from strategy through execution, optimization, and reporting.
How We Measure Success Your performance will be evaluated against tangible business outcomes, including:
- Growth in active customers and completed orders.
- Improved customer acquisition costs and marketing efficiency.
- Increased repeat-order rates and customer retention.
- Sustainable revenue growth and improved unit economics.
- Successful execution of repeatable, scalable growth strategies.
Downloads, impressions, and followers are useful indicators, but they are not the ultimate measure of success. We care about growth that translates into transactions, retention, and revenue.
Requirements
As we expand our footprint, we're looking for an experienced Growth Manager with a proven track record of scaling food delivery platforms, on-demand marketplaces, e-commerce businesses, or logistics technology startups.
We aren't looking for a generalist marketer or someone who wants to learn growth management on the job. We need someone who understands this industry, knows what drives marketplace growth, and has successfully executed strategies that deliver measurable business results.
You should already know how to scale a business like Barqly. We're hiring an experienced operator, not someone who needs to be trained from scratch.
Required Experience We strongly prefer candidates who have directly worked with businesses in one or more of these sectors:
- Food delivery platforms.
- On-demand delivery and logistics technology.
- E-commerce marketplaces.
- Consumer-facing digital marketplaces.
- Technology startups with transactional business models.
You must demonstrate experience driving measurable growth in a relevant business. General marketing experience alone will not be sufficient.
Our ideal candidate has
- A proven track record of scaling an early-stage startup or growing a consumer-facing technology business.
- Hands-on experience acquiring customers and increasing transaction volumes.
- A strong understanding of marketplace dynamics, customer behavior, and repeat-purchase economics.
- Practical experience managing performance marketing campaigns and growth budgets.
- The ability to identify growth opportunities, test strategies, and scale successful channels.
- Strong analytical skills and commercial judgment.
- The ability to work independently, move quickly, and take full ownership of results.
Experience in the Nigerian market, particularly Ibadan, is a significant advantage.
You should be able to show us what you've built, what you've scaled, the strategies you've executed, and the results you've delivered.
We value independent thinking, commercial awareness, speed, and accountability. You'll have ownership of your work, but you'll also be accountable for its outcomes.
What we offer
Why Join Barqly? You'll have the opportunity to shape the growth trajectory of an ambitious Nigerian technology startup, work closely with the founding team, and take ownership of strategies that directly influence the business.
We're looking for someone who wants the responsibility of building and scaling, not someone who simply wants a job title.
How to apply
Send your CV to careers@barqlyapp.com with the subject line Growth Manager Application.
Please include a brief summary of
- The food delivery, logistics, e-commerce, or marketplace businesses you've worked with.
- The specific growth challenges you've addressed.
- The measurable results you've achieved.
- The growth strategies and channels you've personally managed.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant, hands-on experience. Applications without evidence of relevant growth achievements may not be considered.
- If you've successfully scaled a business in this space and know how to turn growth strategy into measurable commercial results, we want to hear from you.
