Network Engineer – Ekahau Operator - Carlow, Ireland

Contract Duration: 6 Months Contract Rate: €380 per day Location: Carlow, Ireland – Onsite / Project-based

Job Purpose

Provide onsite network engineering and wireless survey services, including LAN assessment, WLAN passive site surveys, new-topology simulation, technical recommendations, documentation, and deployment validation.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed onsite LAN infrastructure assessments.
• Inventory switches, servers, firewalls, and other network equipment.
• Document MDF/IDF locations, rack layouts, patching, and available rack space.
• Assess copper and fiber infrastructure for potential reuse.
• Review structured cabling information provided by the cable installer.
• Identify infrastructure limitations and deployment blockers.
• Review WAN circuits and existing network topology.
• Produce and validate As-Is documentation.
• Develop and validate the proposed network topology and BOM.
• Perform WLAN passive site surveys.
• Use Ekahau AI Pro and Sidekick 2 to simulate the proposed WLAN topology.
• Validate coverage across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz .
• Validate existing and proposed AP locations.
• Assess building construction materials and RF propagation obstacles.
• Assess mechanical/electrical rooms and potential sources of RF interference.
• Review wireless requirements for meeting rooms, training areas, auditoriums, labs, restaurants, and other specialist areas.
• Identify additional AP requirements where coverage does not meet defined parameters.
• Update WLAN reports and BOMs where changes are required.
• Support customer discussions and technical workshops.
• Provide technical recommendations based on site findings.
• Support Phase 2 deployment and validate implementation against the approved design.
• Produce technical reports and handover documentation.

Required Skills

• Strong practical knowledge of LAN/WLAN infrastructure.
• Good understanding of switches, routers, and firewalls.
• Basic network configuration capability.
• Strong network troubleshooting skills.
• Strong understanding of wireless networking and RF principles.
• Proven experience conducting WLAN site surveys.
• Hands-on experience with Ekahau AI Pro and Sidekick 2.
• Ability to interpret and produce network diagrams and floor plans.
• Ability to assess structured cabling infrastructure.
• Ability to develop technical reports and technical recommendations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and make technical decisions within the project scope.
• Ability to communicate technical findings effectively to customers, cable installers, and remote engineering teams.

Minimum Certification

• CCNA or equivalent certification required.
• Ekahau certification/accreditation would be advantageous.
• Relevant wireless/networking certifications are desirable.
