Senior Equipment Design Engineer / Lead Systems Architect (High-Precision Equipment)
Must-have:Lead
About the company
Our client, a global leader in precision manufacturing and smart hardware, is building a new high-precision equipment development team in Singapore. This is an opportunity to shape the architecture of next-generation automated machinery from the ground up, with sub-micron performance targets.
Your tasks
You will lead the end-to-end mechanical, structural and system-level design of high-precision automated equipment. Your work will balance structural rigidity, thermal stability, motion dynamics and manufacturability, taking each machine from concept through prototype to volume production.
- System Architecture & Concept Design: Define the architecture and layout of high-precision automated equipment, including system layout, module sizing and overall footprint.
- Mechanical & Structural Design: Design precision mechanical sub-systems such as gantry frameworks, motion stages and machine frames, optimising stiffness-to-weight ratio.
- FEA & Error Budgeting: Run static, dynamic and thermal FEA; build error budgets covering Abbe error, thermal drift and mechanical compliance.
- Multidisciplinary Integration: Work closely with electrical, software, optical and process engineers to integrate cabling, pneumatics, sensors and end-effectors.
- DFM / DFA: Own tolerance stack-up analysis, component selection and engineering change orders (ECOs) to move designs smoothly into production.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or a related discipline. A Master's or PhD is preferred; candidates with a Bachelor's degree and extensive relevant experience are also welcome.
- At least 10 years of hands-on experience designing complex, high-precision automated equipment, e.g. semiconductor front-end or back-end tools, advanced packaging equipment, precision metrology systems, or high-end pick-and-place automation.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Creo or NX).
- Solid command of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Hands-on experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) for structural and thermal optimisation.
- Good understanding of precision motion elements (linear motors, air bearings, ball screws, harmonic drives) and vibration isolation.
- Familiarity with cleanroom design constraints and material selection for low-outgassing / high-stability environments is an advantage.
