About the company
Our client, a leading global technology manufacturer, is extending their high-precision equipment R&D team in Singapore. We are looking for a detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer to own the electrical hardware design of high-precision automated machinery, from schematic capture and cabinet layout to power distribution, component selection, safety systems, and PLC and controller configuration.
Your tasks
- Electrical System Design: Design electrical schematics, power distribution layouts, and control panel layouts using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Hardware Selection: Specify and select electrical and electromechanical components, including PLCs, I/O modules, motion controllers, servo and stepper drives, sensors, safety relays, and power supplies.
- Safety System Design: Design hardware safety architectures such as emergency stops, safety interlocks, and light curtains in compliance with ISO 13849 and IEC 60204.
- PLC and Controller Configuration: Use the PLC as a core electrical design tool, including I/O allocation, hardware and fieldbus network configuration, and electrical configuration on the in-house control platform. PLC programming is not required.
- Wiring, Cabling and EMI Management: Design cable routing, shielding, and grounding strategies to minimise electromagnetic interference and ensure signal integrity in sensitive high-precision equipment.
- Commissioning Support: Lead power-up testing and I/O checkout, and support hardware-in-the-loop testing and on-site machine debugging together with the software and mechanical teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of hands-on electrical design experience for automated equipment, semiconductor equipment, or high-precision machinery.
- Proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 or AutoCAD Electrical.
- Experience selecting and configuring PLC and motion control hardware from major automation platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, Omron, or Mitsubishi. Experience with any one platform is acceptable.
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, and CANopen.
- Solid understanding of electrical codes, wiring standards, and machine safety compliance, including CE, UL, and NFPA 79.
- Hands-on experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and electrical panel assembly and wiring.
- Experience with semiconductor or precision equipment is an advantage.
