About the Opportunity Getty Images is seeking an emerging photographer to join our Editorial Sports team through a six-month Sports Photography Traineeship based in Sydney. This fixed-term, part-time opportunity is designed to support the development of early-career sports photographers through practical experience, dedicated mentorship and exposure to professional editorial photography workflows. The successful candidate will work alongside Getty Images photographers, editors, and editorial staff, gaining experience across live sports coverage, image editing, captioning, metadata, transmission and editorial production processes. The programme includes mentorship from Getty Images staff sports photographers and Nikon Ambassador, Hannah Peters, as well as guidance from Getty Images sports photographers, editors and editorial staff. Participants will have opportunities to contribute to sporting event coverage, subject to editorial requirements, operational needs and accreditation availability.
Your Next Challenge: As part of the traineeship, you may have opportunities to:
Observe and assist with live sports photography coverage.
Attend sporting events and assignments that may take place during evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Learn and apply Getty Images editorial photography standards and workflows.
Edit, caption and prepare photographs for transmission and distribution.
Develop an understanding of metadata, image management and editorial production processes.
Work alongside photographers, editors and production staff on sporting event coverage.
Gain experience working to editorial deadlines.
Participate in training, mentorship and professional development activities.
Build industry knowledge and understanding of professional sports photography operations.
Photographic assignment opportunities will vary throughout the programme and are subject to editorial requirements, operational considerations and accreditation availability.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends and public holidays, as sporting events and editorial assignments regularly occur outside standard business hours.
Eligibility to work in Australia.
Completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification
Nice to Have: Experience photographing sporting events.
Familiarity with Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
Understanding of digital photography workflows.
Experience managing digital image files and metadata.
Video or multimedia content creation experience.
Knowledge of professional sport and sporting culture.
Equipment Support: Participants will be provided access to professional Nikon photographic equipment for the duration of the traineeship, subject to programme requirements and equipment loan arrangements.
