Your tasks

Summary At Genoptic, you?ll help build real, deployable products that integrate advanced power electronics, distributed assets, and intelligent control technologies. This position reports to the Project Team Lead and is primarily focused on Genoptic Energy, contributing to next-generation power systems for renewables, batteries, energy security, and grid modernization, while supporting energy storage and controlled-environment agriculture platforms. The EMS Gateway Engineer is primarily responsible for the deployment, configuration, integration, and ongoing support of Energy Management System (EMS) gateways for Genoptic products. The role ensures reliable data flow, system control, secure remote access, and robust network connectivity between field devices and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, commission, and maintain EMS gateways for microgrids, battery systems, and other distributed energy resources (DERs), including initial setup, firmware updates, and remote management.
  • Integrate EMS gateways with converters, inverters, BESS, meters, and site controllers using industrial protocols (e.g., Modbus TCP/RTU, IEC 61850, CAN where applicable).
  • Develop and maintain gateway mappings, data models, point lists, and tag databases to support EMS, and cloud analytics platforms.
  • Implement and verify communication architectures, including IP addressing schemes, VPNs, firewalls, and secure remote access for fielded systems in coordination with requirements.
  • Perform functional, diagnostic, and system-level testing of EMS gateway configurations, including simulation of field devices and failure scenarios.
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of communication, latency, data quality, and control issues in lab, factory, and field environments.
  • Create, maintain, and improve standard configuration templates, user manuals, scripts, and deployment for repeatable EMS gateway rollouts.
  • Collaborate with software, controls, and power engineering teams to validate end-to-end EMS functions such as dispatch strategies, setpoint control, and alarm/event handling.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams, interface control documents, commissioning checklists, and operation guides.
  • Support field testing and customer acceptance activities, including on-site or remote commissioning and troubleshooting as required.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers on gateway hardware selection, provisioning, RMA, and lifecycle management.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity hardening practices for gateways and edge devices, including user management, certificates, and secure configuration baselines.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and customers for EMS gateway and communi
