Health, Safety & Environmental Lead
Gemkom Engineering and Machinery Filial is a newly established branch of the Turkish company Gemkom. It is a leading engineering and manufacturing company that operates in a number of areas and in various ways within the steel industry.
We will participate in a project where Stegra (H2 Green Steel) establishes a steel mill in Norra Svartbyn in Boden, where steel will be produced through an almost fossil-free process using hydrogen gas. Our mission is, among other things, to install machines used in steel production and includes work in mechanics, electronics and plumbing.
We now want to employ a Health, Safety & Environmental Lead. The work tasks may include but are not limited to:
JOB DESCRIPTION
The HSE Lead will support the HSE Manager in the implementation and coordination of Health, Safety and Environmental requirements across the project and provide day-to-day leadership and coordination to the site HSE team.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise the daily activities of HSE Officers and site HSE personnel.
- Monitor site activities and ensure compliance with project HSE requirements, procedures and applicable regulations.
- Conduct and coordinate site inspections, safety walks and follow-up of identified corrective actions.
- Support the review and implementation of Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), Permit to Work (PTW) and other HSE documentation.
- Provide practical HSE guidance and support to construction management, engineers, supervisors, foremen and subcontractors.
- Monitor high-risk construction activities including lifting operations, work at height, confined space, hot work and other critical activities.
- Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations and follow up corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate toolbox talks, HSE inductions, awareness activities and other site safety training.
- Support HSE audits, inspections, reporting, statistics and performance monitoring.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities and drills.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and intervene when unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
- Report significant HSE risks, observations and site issues to the HSE Manager and support continuous improvement of project HSE performance.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- University degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety or a related technical field.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant HSE experience, preferably in construction, industrial, energy, oil & gas or similar major projects.
- Previous experience in a Senior HSE, HSE Lead, HSE Chief, HSE Supervisor or HSE Management role.
- Strong practical knowledge of construction HSE, risk assessment, RAMS, PTW, incident investigation and site inspections.
- Experience supervising HSE personnel and working with subcontractors and construction teams.
- NEBOSH IGC or equivalent internationally recognized HSE qualification is preferred.
- Ability to communicate in English in a construction site environment.
- Strong site coordination, leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Good knowledge of MS Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in international and multicultural project environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of Swedish construction HSE requirements and/or BAS-P/BAS-U is considered an advantage.
- Willingness and ability to be based in Boden, Sweden for the project duration.
