Your tasks
About the Role The successful candidate will manage residential real estate matters from start to finish while also contributing to the broader development and operation of the firm. Our team currently consists of 6 members including one lawyer (Jason Macleod), an accounts and operations manager, a team lead, and three real estate paralegals/assistants.
We are not looking for someone to build a client base or spend their time networking and marketing for clients. We are fortunate to have a steady stream of clientele and want to focus on creating an outstanding client experience, building efficient systems, and growing a respected brand in the real estate industry. Gavl Law clients are served collaboratively by the Gavl Team as a whole to ensure efficient and effective service, while reducing stress on any one team member.
You will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, shape processes, and help define what a modern law firm should look like.
Legal Practice Responsibilities
- Managing residential real estate transactions
- Conducting client meetings and providing practical legal advice
- Reviewing and drafting agreements and closing documentation
- Overseeing files from opening through completion
- Working collaboratively with staff to ensure efficient and accurate file handling
- Maintaining high standards of client communication and responsiveness
Business & Growth Responsibilities
- Assisting with operational planning and process improvement
- Helping implement and refine legal technology systems and automation tools
- Contributing to the development of scalable workflows and modern firm practices
- Participating in strategic discussions around growth, efficiency, and client service
- Supporting the ongoing evolution of the firm?s culture and internal systems
- Taking a ?big picture? approach to how legal services can be delivered more effectively
The role will primarily start with legal practice responsibilities, with increasing business and growth responsibilities over time.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who
- Has completed their articles and is licensed to practice law in Manitoba (or eligible to transfer)
- Experience in real estate law is an asset, not a requirement
- Is highly organized and detail-oriented
- Enjoys working collaboratively in a team environment
- Is comfortable using technology and open to learning new systems
- Thinks proactively and enjoys solving problems
- Wants to contribute to building something long-term
- Values efficiency, innovation, and practical thinking over ?the way things have always been done?
