About the Company

An early-stage manufacturing technology company developing advanced components for applications across aerospace, robotics, and medical devices. The company is also building proprietary software and engineering systems, including its own geometry kernel, CAD environment, and CNC toolpath engine.

About the Role

The company is hiring a technically strong Research Engineer to develop foundational CAD and computational geometry systems.

The initial priority is automating the process of matching and validating 3D CAD models against their corresponding 2D engineering drawings, replacing a currently manual workflow.

The role will then expand into the company's geometry kernel, in-house CAD environment, and CNC toolpath engine. You’ll work closely with the technical lead and take ownership of a core technical subsystem.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software to automate matching and validation between 3D CAD models and 2D drawings.
  • Build and extend computational geometry systems and the company's in-house CAD environment.
  • Contribute to the CNC toolpath engine that generates machine instructions.
  • Research and solve complex, open-ended geometry and CAD problems.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of a core subsystem, from investigation through implementation and ongoing development.
  • Connect mathematical and software engineering work to practical manufacturing applications.

Requirements

  • 2–8 years of relevant engineering or research experience.
  • Strong mathematical foundations, particularly in computational geometry.
  • Experience in at least one relevant technical area: CAD/CAM, 3D geometry, computer graphics, embedded systems, firmware, or low-level systems.
  • Ability to reason about geometry, algorithms, and how software operates at a lower systems level; primarily web-development experience is not sufficient.
  • Experience solving technically complex problems without relying on predefined solutions or established product specifications.
  • Ability to independently develop, implement, and maintain a technically complex subsystem.
  • Comfortable working fully in person in Toronto, five days per week.

Nice to have:

  • Mathematics competition experience (AIME, USAMO, IMO, or equivalent).
  • Undergraduate or graduate research in mathematics, computer science, geometry, graphics, or robotics.
  • Production experience with geometry, CAD/CAM, or CNC toolpath software.
  • Machine learning or computer graphics experience.
  • Background in autonomous vehicles, semiconductors, GPUs, or other deep-technology environments.
